View Full Version : How do I disconnect RT hardline?

I feel like such a damn newbie, but I've never had a marker with hardline before. How do I disconnect the hardline on a classic RT?
Also, is there any repair/troubleshooting guide for the RT? I have one for my 68 and Minimag, but the RT manual is fairly useless and just tells you not to work on your marker on your own (pff, yeah right).
EDIT: Here's a picture of said RT. More in my markers thread (http://pblegion.com/showthread.php?t=676).

Why? For maintenance you don't have to remove them. You could unscrew the line from the fittings, but you risk damaging the seal. If you really want to remove it, unscrew the fittings from the 1/8 npt holes.

Do you know how pressed copper fitting work on plumbing? Like on a dishwasher?
These KINDA work the same way. On the fitting that goes into the rail, it bends at a 90 and then goes to the hardline tube. Between the hard line and 90 on each end is a threaded press nut that pulls the inside of the hard line into the 90 fitting internally.
Just unthread that "nut" and the hard line will be loose.
You need to repeat the process to BOTH end to get the line off.
Doing it on one side only and pulling tends to bend the line.
Thats a simple version with the exact terms for parts taken out.
You should need a n adjustable wrench and thats it.

For the manual, just use the x-valve manual, it's the exact same with the only difference being that the air goes in the bottom instead of the side.
edit:
Also glad to see someone else rocking a classic RT, one question though, why do you want to take the hard line off, it looks so sexy.

I had to put mine on when i first got it, it worked perfectly for me though (well it was so old it needed a new reg piston, but still).

Just use a 7/16" wrench to loosen up the swagelock fittings.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm just breaking it down to do a thorough cleaning. So basically I just loosen these (swagelock fittings?) and the hardline comes right out?
http://i16.tinypic.com/6p4wjrm.jpg
Should I disconnect the foregrip mount before I disconnect the hardline? I would assume so... Any tips on not bending it? I feel like I can do it alright, but feel free to throw out some helpful advice. Thanks again, everyone!

Yeah, can you do me a favor though, take a picture of teh screw in your foregrip really quick so i can see how far it's screwed in, and let me know if your filter on the hardline is ok? I just want to know if mine can go in any further, cause i don't want to break the filter.
Oh, and i have never taken the hardline off to do a cleaning of my gun, it doesn't really need it.

Take the barrel off.
Take the Bajo Bolt off
The valve should slide out now
Take the sight rail off
Take the front trigger frame screw out
Take the trigger frame off
Take the body off
Loosen the 2 swage fittings
Remove the front fore grip extender screws from the rail
Take the front fore grip off (slightly, not all the way yet)
The hard line should come off the back portion of the rail
Pull the front foregrip completely off the rail
The hard line should now be completely removed
Take the front fore grip off the front fore grip extender
Clean away!

Which foregrip screw? The two that attach it to the mount? I'd be glad to, if only I knew what you meant. :rofl2: Lemme know and I'll get some pictures for you.
P8nt, so, loosen hardline, remove foregrip, remove hardline. Cool. I'm quite familiar with the classic 'mags, just not so much with the RT.

Where the hardline screws into the foregrip, sorry, should've been more specific.

The reason I said it in this order was you asked how not to damage the thing.
I had a few hardlines in my time, not just on my R/T.
When the small gasket o-ring went on the valve side connection, I couldnt get a SS hardline, so I made a copper one. Copper can break and bend easy.
So by doing the method in the order I posted it keeps the removal simple and the least amount of strain on the fittings.

Word, thanks. By the way, are these supposed to have o-rings in 'em? Mine didn't, and I'm not sure the metal-on-metal is gonna seal up real well when I pressurize it.

No, trust me, you have a filter on your hardline, it's built in and won't come off unless the person you got it from really screwed up your hardline. If you could take a picture i would appreciate it, cause i'm scared to screw mine in more.
Also, the metal on metal seals incredibly well, don't worry about it, mine has never leaked.

Some of mine had very small gasket like o-rings (they were not soft) some of them didnt and just had flange ends.
Snoop: I cant get to my R/T stuff cause were in the middle of the Nor Easter right now. I dont remember the filter you speak of,.. but let me get to my stuff and Ill scan all the parts for you and you can show us what you need bigger photos of.

Well when you take the hardline out, the elbow that goes into the foregrip has a brass colored air filter on it to make sure no junk got in your valve (one of the advertised features of the RT) and i'm afraid that if i screw that 90* fitting into the foregrip any further that i will crush this filter against the opposite wall of the foregrip.

Hmmmm,.. now Id have to look.
My thought though is that the filter isnt needed in the first place.
HPA is "more dirty" than C02,.. but I would think if your local field was selling "dirty air" then you and alot of other people would have had regulators gone bad in your bottle long before the filter was plugged.
Im still going to venture to the shed and get ym R/T out like I said. Now you have me thinking mine are different.
Id try taking the filter off and running some air through the gun.

I tried taking the filter off, it's permanently in there, and i'm afraid if i crush it it'll make little bits of filter go into my valve. Plus i don't see the harm in it, doesn't cause any shootdown.

snoopay700, hope this is what you wanted. Let me know if it's not and I'll get another angle.

I did notice a little brass-colored thing inside the end of the elbow that screws into the foregrip, but it fits flush with the end of the elbow so I didn't think it was anything crushable. Also keep in mind that this is after I took the hardline off and reattached it, but I put it back pretty much where it was before and don't think I crushed anything. Cheers.

Oh, then someone may have removed yours, because mine sticks out past the elbow. Anyway that's about where i have mine, so thanks, now i know that's about where it should be.
