Anyone...
Hey is a 2-liter soda bottle 3/4"-14 NPT thread?
I'm having a hard time finding info regarding that.

Like a soda bottle soda bottle?
I don't think it's tapered. If it's not then it's not NPT.

Yeah. A soda bottle bottle.
It has to be a standard of some sort.
I think I have had them fit into 3/4"-14npt before... but I didnt know if thats what it really was. I am designing a fitting that will use a 2 liter bottle. the design has to be done in a day or two. Im hoping to get one cast this weekend.
It needs to be air tight. it will be a ABS fitting to bottle. I was thinking the taper would help with the seal.

Do i need to grab the calipers and measure top and bottom and see if it is tapered?

I got...
Bottom 1.082"
top 1.075"
so what thats .6% taper I think... isnt it 2.5% for npt?
But I only have 2 threads to measure. Not to mention these vertical cut outs in the threads make things fun.

I don't know the minimum, but it's clear to the eye on the tap.
It's for a pipe, to hold the liquid in, so why wouldn't a soda bottle have it?

That's what Im thinking. And like I said... I think it has worked for me in the past, but that was just goofy redneck stuff... this needs to be done well. I would like to know what it really is.
Also, not that it matters but... I'm not using a tap on the part. Its going to a computer rapid prototype machine and it will make the threads off the model.
EDIT:that brings up a question... are PVC/ABS fittings threads molded in or tapped. I never thought of that.

Might I ask what you are needing to thread to a coke bottle? If you are just tring to allow it to fill/empty you might want to try rubber hose and a hose clamp. Or better yet drilling a hole in the cap, and get a compression fitting to fit inside the hole (Sorta like what you use on the bottom of fish tanks...If you have any idea what Im talking about).
Either way good luck with your project.
