View Full Version : Adjust a pre-set reg?

So I've been wonderin'...
I have a Draxxus 68/45 preset to 850 (I think. Never really verified it)
Is it at all possible to adjust the regulator to output 900-950?
Since it is preset, I'm assuming that my answer is no. If that is the case, how simple (or difficult) is it to replace the reg with an adjustable regulator?
I'm basically looking to increase the bounce of my RT trigger. I'm debating whether to go pneu or fine tune the RT.
Heh.. I've been watching Zak's videos lately and now I wonder which firing style I would prefer. :coffee:

If you want to get a RT beast, I suggest upgrading tank regulators. You could change the pressure of the regulator with some shims, but 4500psi is a lot of power to be fooling with. This is the only reason I haven't tried modifying my own tank for more pressure.

it is possible to adjust it on most. but unless your confident in doing it, dont try. make sure its fully empty.when you open it there is a stack of concave washers, all facing the opposite way. making the stack bigger = higher pressure. when we switched my buddies armageddon to LP all we were told to do was flip ONE washer so that it was facing the same way as the one underneath. and when i upped mine he gave me one extra washer to add, and said to put in in facing the same as the previous one.
Good luck

Meh.. if there's potential bodily harm involved, I'll pass. I just wanted to know if it would be easy or not.
So I guess my next question is, what would you all recommend if I were to replace the reg?
I know the AGD Flatline would probably be mentioned, but I don't think it handles 4500 psi. I'd prefer something that doesn't require a cradle since I already have a drop.
Since I'm pretty much just toying w/ the idea, I'm not looking to spend a lot.

its not really that hard you just have to make sure you empty it.

AGD had two flatlines. A 3000psi model, and a 4500psi.

As far as modifying the preset reg, lots of people have tried this before.... or at least they said they were going to try, but no one ever comes out and says how it turned out after the fact.
There are a couple of threads on AO about this.

(Sorry for posting a link to that other forum, but... um... no one has discussed this over here.)

Yes it can be done, but each regulator is slightly different in HOW you do it. All regulators operate in the same basic fashion. Usually it is just adjusting the tension on the spring pack.
I know for a fact that the Pure Energy screw in style regulators need the tension increased, by adding a shim under the spring. Rememeber that the part that screws into the tank, the bonnet is what they call it (I think), is threaded onto the regulator body with lefthanded threads. When you remove the bonnet, there will be a lot of small parts. Be careful. What you need to do is add a shim under the spring pack.
Here is a PDF of the rebuild (http://www.paintballsolutions.com/05pb_solutions/pdf/manuals/pureenergy/preset_reactor_regulator.pdf).
You will have to tinker with the thickness of the shim, in order to adjust the output to get what you are looking for. Remember that this is a VERY strong springpack, and small adjustments may go a long way.
One last note. Be careful of putting too thick a shim in and causing the spring pack to "go solid" If this occurs, the marker will experience FULL BOTTLE PRESSURE! Most markers will NOT handle this very well! You *might* want to use an old remote on/off... the kind used to press in the pin on CO2 bottles, and a pressure guage, to construct a regulator output pressure tester. If you are feeling really froggy, make sure it has a bleed, like a slide check, in order to save your tank oring!
Hope this actually helps someone.

The local pb shop did this for my dads tank for free .... but my dad buys a lot of stuffs from him ...
soo i don't think it could be that big of a deal ... and a shop "should" have a set up to check output pressure ... soo ... take it to a proshop they should hook it up for a small fee ... heck i'd prolly pay 20.00 for someone to do it for me ... and well worth if you don't want to buy another reg that will cost more.
peace

I had a pro shop shim my centerflag 420sv screw in reg to abt 11-1200 psi output, my dynaflow still has a faster recharge rate, but thats because of the pin valve compared to the dynaflow
