Many of the people near me use the Motorola Talkabouts.
Advertised miles is NEVER what you really get on any of the radios.

Id like to know some nice mic's too...

Find one with the highest advertised range that you can. It won't translate to the field but will be so much better than the current crap at Walmart. An 8 miler will get only a few hundred feet into the woods. Trust me, I've been trough a few with my extensive research.

Puxing 777+ Radio with a Iasus NT3 throat mic...

The Puxing works on both FRS/GRMS Freqs along with VHF and UHF bands (128 Channel programmable), 4 watts of power to get you across most any senario pb field (including the 800 acre field at Oklahoma D-Day)... This is not a repeater based radio... http://www.pxdz.com/english/showpro.asp?id=2327

The Iasus thoat mic is one of the best I have found to not move around with the best sound quality and water resistant with a PTT button or VOX mode (I wouldn't suggest using VOX mode)... It also has multi adapters to fit almost any 2 way radio out there... http://www.soundrite.biz/headset/nt3-description.html

If you have anymore questions on this please feel free to PM me...

pretty much what i was going to say... but with less details... go with something similar to what the police use if you want it to work good... it'll run you a few hundred...but it will work!!!

A local team here in Dallas FtWorth area uses them... it's forget anything you can purchase at a regular box store... it just won't cut the mustard...

Having a crew that can effectively use radios to communicate ... is a completely different issue...

Wow, that wasn't a sales pitch at all no way.

I can't speak for the Military, but Police don't use two way radios they use a repeater system just like Fire and EMS with radios for such(the Motorola HT 1000 for example). Getting one that was programed to a usable frequency would be expencive as heck and youd need access to a base station and repeaters even then it would only be safe to use in your local area because who knows what whos on where. I don't think the FCC would be real OK with Paintballers using signals that could cross with Police and such.

I'm with Darkside, just get a good long range two way. It'll work fine for paintball and be alot cheaper and safer.

In my above post, I stated the Puxing 777+ radio. What I forgot to say is when you order the throat mic/headset it will need the 2 pin Kenwood Radio style connector. Sorry for not supplying all the information...
