PBL June 14th Game at Extreme Modesto, CA

Ok people. With Extreme being an old favorite and of the local choices the most popular option that is where we will be going.

Hours: 9am-4pm
Admission: $15
All Day 4500 air: $8
Total: $23
(we are looking into group rate discounts)

Extreme has always catered to our group and has had both a good choice of clean balanced fields as well as refs that work with us. Best of all, a mere 15 min from Extreme is a Chevys (http://www.chevys.com/map.aspx?locationID=63). Now all we have to worry about is the weather...

So here is the plan as I see it. For us who are far away (like me) I will carpool up with DevilMan and depending on who else, head up on Friday evening and crash at the Millin pad. They are only about 30 minutes from the field and I just don't feel like driving 3 hours the same day I play. Assuming the Millin family and all of us get their before the rest of the group we will secure prime shade and parking space for everyone.

After we are done, we will of course have to go out to Chevys. Remember since it's Saturday most of us have Sunday to clean up and recover so we can afford to chill. I will bring a computer to burn all images on CD for everyone.

EXTREME'S PAINT DEAL
Extreme will give you the $8 all day air fee to you complimentary if you buy a case of their paint. They have a store located a bit northwest of the field that sells several brands including Diablo brand paint. As I understand it you can get a case of Hellfire for $50. Not a bad deal.

DEVILMAN'S PAINT DEAL
Devilman has a dealer account for GAP paint and can get their 3 grades of paint straight from the factory at:

~$36 cheap stuff
~$44 mid grade
~$50 expensive stuff
(I need to check with Devilman on exact prices)

The big draw of this is that we can get FRESH cases of paint. He and I have purchased 1 box of each grade paint to see how it all shoots. Ill have a report on approximate size, shell and fill of all 3 types in a week or so.

If one of you has a better deal on paint let me know. I will be bringing LOTS of water and a cooler of ice.

2 reasons.

First, most of us have gone to Extreme and have always had a good time there. I won't lie, when I am looking at 2 hours+ driving 1 way I tend to be worried about going somewhere with no real review or anyone saying that this field is 10x better than any other field in a 200 mile radius.

Second and even simpler, even if CEPP is just as good as Extreme, It's farther away for most of the group than Extreme. Sacramento isn't much better on the weather than Modesto to my knowledge and both places have lots of commerce nearby.

Bottom line is that I took the wimpy conservative rout. Less driving to a place that is relatively close to most of us in the SF, San Jose and Sac area. I got nothing against CEPP but honestly what reason other than new (which we need to try) is there to choose it over Extreme this time?

Edit: also why did you not give your input on that other thread when we were trying to decide where to go? If you have been there and to Extreme then you would have the best knowledge of where to go and why! FSADFGSDF!!! you must let us know! as a matter of fact you should call me and tell me about it now so I can at least hear about it. Ill PM you my cell if you dont have it.

Talked to Gina today:

We need 15 paid admissions to get a private group, with our own ref. $50 deposit required to get the ref on the schedule.

Might be able to work a deal for a few $ off on paint, but need to get some numbers together for her. When you factor in free air, these prices are pretty good. Here is what they usually have:

Triumph (house paint) - 34
Surge - 34
Rec Sport - 38
Blaze - 41
Blaze Bronze - 44
Inferno - 50
Hellfire - 56

I don't know what the cheapest good paint is, you guys tell me. As I recall Blaze was OK.

They may be making some changes, putting in a turf field on the first one to the left as you enter the speedball area. Should be at least one air field plus the hyperball fields.

I can take care of the deposit, and will probably get a couple of cases of paint. I think we can get a price break at 10 cases +.

I know Triumph is made by Draxxus and it's their new recreational paint. I'm not sure how good it is and i don't know if I want to take a chance on it. For the price you can't go wrong with DXS Blaze or Bronze...both has always shot well for me. Put me down for 2 cases. Thanks Brian!

Pootang, I only have connections to get GAP... And from the looks of it, that won't be needed as it looks like the prices at the field are pretty good PLUS you get the free air pass as well with it. So its looking like most folks are going to pull the paint from the store.

Which is fine with me, I was just offering up so that we didn't run into the $60/box of that crappy stuff at CPP like last time.

That and where Z and I live there are no real PB stores around to buy paint from, so I just order mine in when I need it.

Actually no I think we will not. I am bringing 4 new guys who I JUST met 2 weeks back at TAG. By new I mean that they have been playing sporatic woodsball and have played at TAG 3x total and at the OLD woodstalk field in Fort Ord.

They bought Cable's and DevilMan's E-Mags and are hungry for more AGD stuff. I think/hope they will be a nice and repeat addition to the group. They are still a bit new but not so new that they lack the ability to stop shooting when you put your gun up or understand what bonus balling means...

Hey more is more and I would like to find more of our kind of players.

I am thinking 15ish maybe as many as 20 people total. I am making reservations this Monday for Chevy's for 15.

I also broke the PTO on the Kubota tractor today so I have to figure out how to fix that... shearing off an alloy steel rod almost 2 inches thick is kinda surprising... and expensive...

ASDFADFSDFGDS I had my dental appointment today and they started doing that work for a crown on my tooth. ADSFASDFSDF they decided I had to have a root canal and that costs money. So I went over and had that done today as well.

So that works out to be around $2600 total but the good news is that I have it taken care of and what's more, unlike the horror stories that seem to be associated with these operations, this was smooth, painless, and fast.

So I'll be showing up with powerful pain killers but otherwise I should be just fine for this Saturday. This was the last hurtle I was worried about. Now that it is passed, it's home free to a weekend of paintball.

Wow that was a fantastic day. I got back about 10:30 this evening and started uploading all the images and cleaning gear so I am only now getting around to posting. There were a lot of things that could have gone poorly on the trip but I would say it worked out very well!

-Weather. It COULD have been 105 out and instead it was in the high 80's. Sunny but not the "I am dying of heat-stroke please kill me now" kind of heat that would have ended my day of play no matter WHO showed.

-The field. Hey Extreme was great the last times we played but... that was 3 years ago. But Extreme was just like I remember. Several nice laid out fields, relaxed reffing, nice air fills and reasonable pricing.

-The Gear. Everything worked! Sure there were some hick-ups that people had but among the group we have everything that people needed. Right down to that cool little water sprayer that Practice Target had (thank you by the way).

The week leading up to the trip was like a roller coaster. Root canal 5 days before, transportation breaking down 1 day before, most of the paint getting mailed to the wrong address. I'd never had madness like that.

But as soon as we got to the field everything smoothed right out. Everyone was clustered around 2 sets of covered tables with all the cars lined up, we had every type of marker, tool and piece of equipment we could need 5x over.

The gracious hospitality of the Millin family and their puppy is the first thank you that should be mentioned. Cinnaman Toast Crunch for breakfast! Need I say more?

DevilMan once again drug me there and back due to some sort of sensor blowing out on the minivan we were going to carpool up in and though we had some problems in shipping the paint to the right area... I got all mine and that is really all I cared out... (sorry it's true I wanted to see what $$$ paint was like).

Flyingpootang. Finally got to meet you and I must say you are as evil as Carbon with your sneaky appearing out of tiny cracks in the hyperball fields and consistently shooting me when I thought I had the field under control.

Lasrsktr you are vile and scheming individual with that pump thing. I'm not sure how you were able to shoot people when you shot less paint that day than I carried onto the field in a single game. I have learned this however. I need to shoot more paint when I see you on the opposite side and life gets easy when I have you on my team :shoot:

Practice Target. I demand one thing. your EgoMag. Then you may live. thank you. Also I am really happy you got that Viking working. Such a pretty marker like that needs to be shot more.

Eatem Alive. You took that fall like a pro and just remember that not everyone gets to dislocate their shoulder. As the only member of the group to pull that off in a game... I dunno maybe you should be proud? Either way you didn't cry, it was sweat.

AVCHD Card compression requires me to decode the footage before I can edit it. The decoding program I use is crappy and it takes about 24 hours to decode it all. There are 8 sections left and then it shall appear in all it's glory. I'm taking song requests for the "second" half of the video...

Also while I am here typing I might as well add in more things that I did not mention in the first reply.

Prox9 was driven out to the event courtesy of Blenn and Mighty Mike. It was the first time seeing him in at least 4 years for me and considering the photos I had seen in the hospital I was really impressed how little evidence there was. Good to see you walking around Matt and I think you were very wise NOT to sell that Cyborg. Very nice marker.

The other thing that was very odd about the event was how people were playing. First off Mighty Mike was all over that field. I got shot out one game with 3 or 4 left on each side and I see Mike moving up up PAST the 50 to like OUR 40! Where did that come from? Then next game he does a run through and get me! :wall:

Aegis you were also moving all over the place. I don't know what was going on but it was like we had done musical chairs with our play styles. Even crazier was that I HIT people! Yes! Great job on the pics Zak!! Just an awesome day of paintball. I had so much fun, it's hard to believe this was our first NorCal Day in 3 years! Both refs told me that our group was the best they've worked with and that speaks volume of our NorCal crew. Here's our last picture of the day...Chevys goodness.

It's another Hybrid °°°°°°°, but that dosen't make me a gun whore "well at least compared to A-Tach anyway". Nah I didn't get to use it because I was running late to my own Fathers Day BBQ. I can't wait for the next time we go out. Hopefully my 5 tanks of 4000 psi each will be enough to tune all my markers. That way I can spend less time trying to get something to work and more time playing....

fixed the dimensions of the film no more 720x480 now it's an HD format of 853x480. Nothing different than that.

all the same I just over-wrote the old file. It went from 84MB total to about 104mb. I am also noticing on older slower machines it's choppy. If anyone has trouble with it pulling 30fps left me know. I like the large resolution but if most of you have trouble then Ill just downsize it.

Also if your machine plays it choppy you have a wuss for a computer. My 5 year old Tower BUILT this video and plays it like glass.

I actually captured some decent shots of people getting hit. I wish I had filmed a little more now seeing the end result. Ya I filmed the random biker dude, I wanted to see if I could hold it steady on full zoom... apparently not so well. I cant believe the resolution of that footage too, its beautiful. How much was that camera Zak? If you don't mind me asking.

I can't wait till the next event, I really need to play some paintball again.

Camera was about $600 as I recall. I gotta work out some way to convince someone who isn't going to play to film us. If we had the whole day filmed I could make a 10 minute video worthy of a DVD. But hey at least we got something, thank you Matt. And you will have to play next time because you will be fully recovered by then.
