SPYDER CUP 2008 IS FREE TO ENTER!
Spyder Cup Registrations are now FREE, and Division 2 teams are eligible
Baldwin Park, CA - Spyder has just announced expansion plans for the 2008 Spyder Cup. We are excited to offer all 2008 Spyder Cup players FREE entry fees. The registration fee will now be FREE for all teams competing in the Spyder Cup. In an effort to expand the Spyder Cup and reach more players we will also be opening up the registrations to any amateur teams that have played in Division 2 tournament play and below. Excluded rosters will now consist of any players that have competed in Professional, Semi-Professional, Open, or Division 1 tournament play over the course of the past three years.
"Spyder is working to help grow the sport of paintball. By making our popular Spyder Cup tournament free and adding the inclusion of D2 teams we hope to accomplish this." says Jason Donaldson, VP of Marketing for Spyder.
The Spyder Cup is an amateur level 3-man paintball tournament where teams compete using Spyder brand paintball markers. In the past 8 years Spyder has awarded 15 cars and $1000's in prizes through the Spyder Cup Tournament. More details here http://www.spyder.tv/spydercup/index.html ."
I thought "awesome I can take the vike out for another spin." Then I read the rules stating:
Spyder Markers Only
Every device used to propel a paintball during any Spyder Cup event must be a Spyder paintball marker and must be recognizable as such. Upgrades to the barrel, regulator, feed neck, grips, bolt, expansion chamber, and external cosmetics will be allowed as long as the marker can still be easily recognized as a Spyder marker and the basic functioning of the marker remains that of a Spyder. At no point may the Spyder name or logo on a marker be covered or removed.
Which had me thinking about a spydermag in a spyder body. XValve would be oh so fun compared to a field of blowbacks. Plus if we lost early I could always have some fun asking a kingman tech to service the thing.
Of course it would be lame cheating and so my next thought was "hey this is a chance for a relatively level playing field." At least the technology all has to come from the same place to start and upgrading is limited by the base you are using. I am almost as interested in watching as I am in playing. Anyway we'll see if we can get the team together two weekends in a row.
But seriously all markers from the same company how cool is that? They do allow rocking triggers though. Not sure what to think of that.
