View Full Version : Droid anyone?

Well NPPL this sunday I held a droid and fell in love. It felt great and looks good. It's efficient and etc.. etc...all the things you need and it's made by macdev.
Anyone here shooting one?
Any complaints?
From what I've read so far, if I take care of it like I do my matrix I will be golden. The only thing I don't like is how often the gladiator needs to be cleaned and lubed in order to keep it consistent. Apparently the red seal gets dirty very easy for some reason? I clean my regs now maybe once every season and they work as well as they are capable of. Even my old glad reg didn't need cleaning as much as they recommend and as much as most people are having to in order to prevent issues from occurring.
So any input? I want one, but I want to be certain that it's the gun for me Because I may end up trading both of my current markers plus some. Or I may just decide it's not worth it.

Even though I dont have personal experience with one, I usually hear, read, play, or talk to those with nearly every type marker.
Over the years, MacDev is one company Ive never heard a bad thing about. This includes their new Droid.
Now, while I havent heard anything 'good' about them either, not hearing anything bad about them says just as much to me as a positive review. Nowadays, more people complain when things are bad than they sing praise when things are good.

ok
#1 - shot consitency fps, i am getting 1-3 fps +/- sometime four or 5 shots at the same fps.
#2 this is the lightest thing i have ever held.
#3 flat trajectory
#4 it has a great barrel system, but only comes with one back, .693 i use my stiff or Sanchez machine hit on it
#5 other than a gun not firing in the staging area, this is the most quiet marker out there, there may be some matixes that are close but this thing whispers.
#6 out of the box not broken in and dwell on 12, i am getting about 1600+ shots off a 68 4500, with about a 4100 fill. I can almost go the whole day (if im one casing it that is) without filling, especially nice for outlaw ball
#7 so easy to program
#8 i can sustain 14-16 bps in semi, well more like 14 with 16 peaks
#9 i think the 3 point trigger, stock is very nice, no need for upgrade unless there is a particular style you like (ie Sythe)
Cons -
#1 dont like the intergrated dove tail, but i do like the on off, i put a drop forward on it after one day of play, but then again i am old school.
#2 its so light it "feel" cheap, not looks or is but has that brass eagle plastic lightness. I am used to mags and rt's
#3 maintenance - this can be a pro or con, after taking it apart one time it was simple, i break it down like my older guns after everyday or every two days of play, plan on the reg once a month in peak season.
#4 agglets wanting to shoot it, and then say they'd prefer an ego, while they shoot an °°°, however most ego users locally are amazed at the little kick and quietness compared to their egos.
All in all i have had zero breaks but i have only ran about a case through it cuase i take about 4 markers with me everyweekend and they all get rotation. i look forward to it breaking in and dropping the dwell for even better perfromeance.
Let me know if you need anything else.
As with any new model expect them to sell for 1/2 price due to aggs already gun whoring and trading them for 800-900 doallars.

Very nice marker. I want one so bad, but my funds are short so I'm going to try and trade my two markers for one.
I shoot both ends of the spectrum now, ego and proto..and I prefer spools by far. I don't mind lubing them up each weekend. Only thing that gets me is how often the regulator on the droid needs to be cleaned and lubed, but I guess it isn't too big of a deal.
Hopefully after world cup when they release the new borg the price on droids will drop.

...no one saw that comming...
I'm glad it's going over so well, I've heard nothing but good things about MacDev and it's nice to see a little "shake up" in the companies. I'm just not in the market for a new marker...why replaces what isn't broke?

#3 flat trajectory
I'm not going to lie, I stopped reading your post right there.
Anyway, from what I've heard everyone loves them but they are pretty high maintenace by todays standards(sounds like you know that). If you like the feel and are willing to lube it up frequently then I'd get it. Anymore how a marker feels to you is way more important than anything else since they all preform about the same.

get off your °°°°ing high tom horse, shoot two markers and there are slight variations to the paintballs path. IE, my mini shoots with a little loop to it so it doesnt fly as straight it almost have a little upward curve. Same barrel, same tank, same 285 fps.
I understand the distance thing with 280 is 280, but °°°°ing surprise different guns shoot different, i didnt say further i didnt say higher, i said more flat.
Maybe a fairy comes in to my mini and lines all the seems up a special way and it shoots differently. Please for the love of God tell me you have markers that shoot differently, not further but different.
LOL, anyway.

Truth be told, if he hadn't brought it up, I would have. There is nothing at all in there that could make it shoot flatter. IF you agree they go the same distance, that makes it even more impossible that one flies flatter than the other. I appreciate affection for a newer marker, but we all need a reality check every once in a while.
Overall, I like the looks of the droid, but I haven't shot it. The bolt system is horribly overcomplicated, especially when compared to the new DP guns, with their, what, 3-4 orings? I despise the antics on the PBN macdev forum, and won't go anywhere near it. And I'm not a fan of gladiator regs.

Oh noz! Now steelrat is being mean too! Seriously though, go read the physics of paintball threads that are everywhere, you might need a refresher.

...
I can 100% honestly tell you that I have never had a marker that "shot different" as far as the balls path with the same barrel. Physics people physics, they apply to paintball too.
Droid good gun, Yes. Shoot "flatter", No.

I was waiting for someone to hit on that comment. I think it all has to do with the amount of kick. And that's as detailed into my theory as I will go because I couldn't care less.
Yea they do seem like they need a lot of maintenance. Lubing the bolt after each day of play I'm fine with, I've done that with my proto since I bought it 2 years ago. It's the reg's frequent maintenance that makes me iffy. I guess worst comes to worst I can throw a different reg on it.

agree to disagree, maybe its elves like I said, then again i only been playing paintball and teching guns for 16 + years, some guns shoot differently call it what you will. could it be that i dont have 900psi kicking and a double stack ram type gun maybe, but then again less kick less movement of the gun ....well you get the picture.

And in my sack I find sir Issac Newton, who explains to me the law of force and matter. He tells me that two items of equal mass fired at the same force (velocity) will infact, have an equal flight and fall pattern. But I don't know if I believe him becase TnDeathInc (and Billy Gardner) is smarter and says Newton is wrong. BTW I've been listening to rock music for 16+ years and I still can't play the guitar.

the guitar was superior point, however playing and teching markers, not listening to people talk about markers throught the stereo...its ok
and i been °°°°ing for 16 years and i aint a °°°° star.. yep

I considered one of these but places that carry parts for MacDev stuff are few and far between. They look better than the Cyborg IMO.

i havent played with my cyborg as much, but i can agree i do think they look better, i am intersted to see if they do any huge design changes for 08. I personally think a cyborg is not easly confused with any other gun.

I hoping the new version of the droid (macdev said they aren't doing years now) has the VA built into the body. Right now it's just one more piece to worry about.
