I was thinking of asking the wife for a JR .50 gas powered helicopter. Anyone have experience with these?> they look like a blast and something fun to pick up? ANyone?

yes i have had a cheap electric one but i wondered if the gas was worth the price associated with it?

I don't know anything about the prices and gas, but i do know that my brother has one and crashed it on the first couple of tries...had to replace the blades.

If you buy one, to help practice landing and take-off, attach 2 wooden rods (arround 3' each) in the form of an X at the bottom of the heli, this gives you a lot more surface and reduces the chances of tiping over when landing.

Also, he had to spend a lot of time calibrating the remote, that didn't look like an easy task either. He is an electrical ingeneer and is a genius with electrical components but he is the worst driver i have ever known for a 25 year old. I think he's at 6-7 car accidents now.

I think the heli was a "Raptor"....not 100% on that though.

yeah if i buy one for Christmas im going to buy a few parts kits to keep her up and going for a few hours. I crahsed the hell out of the elctric one many times.

The thing i like about gas is, my nice electric can only fly about 9-11 minutes before dying, sometimes in mid air if you are not careful. Gas is a little more predictable than that i think.
