Product: Save Phace So Phat Series Mask
My initial impression when opening the box containing these masks was that they looked awsome, the pics on the net do them no justice. After putting it on I realised the forhead guard thing had to go. Its held on by four little screws which are placed such that getting them out is a trick and a half mostly becasue I didn't have a screw driver small enough. The fit is very similar to that of the E-vents mask(it does leave alittle of your jaw exposed) The mask is very very light and for me extreamly comfortable, however it is a one piece solid construction mask so if it doesn't fit you there is no way to make it fit(they are comming out with an XL size this fall) The mask fits me great and is one of the most comfortable I've ever used. The feild of vision is totally unobstructed, you can see everything great. I was very impressed as I'd heard alot of mixed reviews and was alittle worried.
On the field:
I used this mask for a night of very intense pump speedball and to ref a tourney, it was great in both. First off the removable washable foam in my opinion is the high poin of this mask and alone makes it worth the money, its great to be able to take it out and ring out the swet and such thoughout the day and to be ble to wash it at the end. The lenses are very very hard to fog(very similar to V-force, you can fog them but you really have to try) The only time I had anything resembleing fog at night(on a fairly cool humid night) after running the lenth of the field about six times in a row and panting very hard to try to catch my (I'm kind of a fat guy) Even then it wasn't bad enough to interfear with play at all. Durring the day I never had any problems or semblence of fogging. The thing that really blew my mind was the skip these masks get. Let me explain, at first the hard shell was a major downside in my opinion as there would be no hope of bounces but since I couldn't remember the last time I actually got a bounce I decided it wouldn't matter. Now these masks have a very slick finish to them. Manwe33 at one point durring the day made mention of several balls being deflected off of his mask and not breaking. So now after taking some headshots I am amazed to say that it takes a pretty direct hit for the ball to break and not "skip" off the mask. And we're talking DXS Silver here, not some hardshelled lowend paint. The ventalation is good, but there is some echo that alittle more venting may cut down on. Overall I am giving this mask a 9.5 out of 10, the only downside is the exposed jawline, and would definatly recommend it to anyone, just make sure to try one on to make sure it'll fit your head first. Excelent product, and I got complaments about how awsome it was and asked where to get one all day durring the tourney I reffed.
