OK, so the myth is that some mask's lenses are bullet proof. I first heard this rumor years ago about the then new JT Spectra thermal lenses back in the day and have heard it about several mask since then most recently the V-force Profiler and Grill. Usually these claims are at insanly close ranges and include pictures of somesort that could have been hit with about anything.

This set of grill lenses was suposidly shot from 5' away with a .40cal 165gr. FMJ round.

Well, I've got alot of old masks, spare lenses, guns, and ammo so I'm going to test it out tomarrow night with full video documentation.

Here are some of the masks we'll be shooting(just the lens on some of them)
http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm31/dyslexiapaintball/masks001.jpg

We'll start off with a 9mm 115gr fmj round from the fabled 5' mark with the mask placed on a melon or coconut then record the result. We'll then experiment with other calibers and ranges with the extra lenses we have(we've got ALOT of profiler lenses). Right now it looks like we'll be using the Ventz thermal lens, JT elite, JT spectra, V-force Armor, and V-force Profiler for sure, we may(but probably won't) add a V-force Grill and Save Phace mask but nither of us is sure we want to shoot the lenses from our masks we are currently using and love(and are both nearly new) We will eventually probably do a Grill, Dye, and Save Phace test, a grill lens at least since its the newest incarnation of the legend but probably now tomarrow unless we find someone locally who wants to donate a set before we go.

My money is on none of them stopping the bullet, but time will tell and it'll be fun anyway.

We'll post the results tomarrow night and a video shortly thereafter.

Just as info, the Oakley tactical lenses I have meet the MIL-PRF-3103 standard, which reads as follows:

The ballistic resistance of the spectacles shall be such that they will
pass a Vo test using a 0.15 caliber, 5.8 grain, T37 shaped projectile at a velocity of 640 to 660 feet per second when tested as specified in 4.4.1.1.

Now, the lenses are considerably thinner than a paintball mask lens, but that's also a lot less force than a 9mm or .40 round. It'll be interesting to see what the results are.

We'll see what happens, my moneys still on a broken lens and a dead watermelon.

Mostly used, but we'll try one or two new ones.

I can say with 100% certainty that a Vforce morph lens will not stop .223 or .308 at 40yrds. :D

I would imagine not:rofl2:

Cool video. The bullet holes shrinking and closing up definitely could make it look like the mask was bullet proof.

At least the chinstrap was bullet proof.

That stupid chin strap held that melon in thru everything we tried. So if your head detaches and rolls away its OK because your goggles won't come off:D.

The rifle calibers at 40yrds left very simillar holes.

Glad everyone on here understands that paintball lens don't stop bullets. You wouldn't believe how many tools on pbnation are calling the video Bryce did a fake.

Are you really supprized...it's PbN...they are borderline (at best) short bus special.

That and they eat up marketing like it sustains life...and some mask companies have said their lenses can stop bullets. Most memorable (to me) the Vforce grill made that claim right when they came out...I think they have a vid on warpig where they say it. I would assume they probably used a low powered shotgun (like 20ga no.8's) at "long range" where the pellets lose all real penetration power.
