View Full Version : Avalanche leaves the NXL; it costs too much

Its just a matter of time IMO. Sponsorships are drying up, and those that still have them arent getting as much from the manufacturers. Ed Poorman said "As owner of the team I could not handle all the extra expenses when sponsorship dollars have decreased this season."

I had no idea that the entry fee for a NXL team is $6,000 per event.

*As a side note, its been said by some that the paintball industry is growing. Its strange that sponsorship dollars would be decreasing for the pro teams with an industry that is still growing.

All the increasing costs and greedy event coordinators are what killed the IAO... the teams were losing too much money... even when they won, they were still in the negative!

It makes me wonder what their business model is then. If nobody can make money playing their format, and the cost to play outweighs any winnings...whats the point?

...and that's why its now a dead event...

Marketing.

I see a pro circut that is comprised only of factory teams that exist only to sell their markers and paint. The teams who are not directly supported by a factory better start producing their own line to sell. Kind of like what XSV did when they basically created "clutch techonlogies" who made all the XSV branded goods (marker parts, and their really nice pants that everyone loved).

Everyone else will not be able to afford to play unless they are primarlly a sales/ad campagin for a major company...I know this is kind of the case now, but it's going to get to be a lot more like that.

Isnt that putting the carriage before the horse? Dont they need a sustainable league and an actual market to market to? How will the league and their teams sustain themselves if they dont cultivate a market to market to first?

I never said it was smart, but it's what appears to be happening, at least from where I'm sitting.

for some reason..I'm actually glad that the pro scene is starting to implode on some level...I've actually decided that when I start playing again I'll probably just go the Woodsball/Scenario route and just not take myself too seriously..

I agree, I think its time for pro paintball to reorganize itself.

I cant bring myself to do the woodsball thing. I really like the competitive nature of the speedball/airball field but its the players that play this format that are less than appealing.

I'm with Rogue...woodsball just doesn't appeal to me. I deal with the players..I try not to let things bother me when playing, of course now I play so little that any chance I get to play is amazing no matter who I'm with. I'm just happy to be on the field.

One has to wonder if the team's 3-12 record over the 3 events they played, had any factor in the decision to leave. The NXL is an elite league. The costs to play it are high. Maybe the Avalanche guys decided that the high costs of getting their °°°°° whipped was too much.

Just a thought.

That may have been a factor for Ed Poorman, but the team still wanted to play. They had been hosting clinics and such to raise money to play NXL and NPPL, unfortunately they didn't raise enough.
