i've noticed that much of the talk around here is about mags. does anyone here shoot other types of markers? if so, what makes them better than mags?

I no longer own a mag. I haven't owned one in a few years.

I shoot an 05 ego and a UL'd PM6..what makes them better then a mag?

A mag can do the same things both of my markers and any other marker out can do, but it comes at a price. I got rid of my mag because I got tired of dumping money into it to get it to perform how I wanted. This could be avoided by buying a used mag, but when I bought my mag it was brand new and bone stock...

Other then that I guess most people will claim efficiency is an issue, but I don't know because I don't even know how many shots I get off of my current markers because whenever my tank gets to a grand I usually fill up do to all day air. So that isn't really an issue for me.

Another big issue is the lack of eyes..yea yea yea lvl 10..but lvl 10 is a pain in the °°° and I don't find it near as reliable as eyes. Just my personal opinion that some probably won't agree with.

You know if devils den actually produced devil mags I might still shoot a mag..it had everything I needed, electronic, eyes, light. But once again it comes at a price.

I don't shoot a mag. I have borrowed them and they are nice.

I use an 04 mech cocker and an 06 intimidator. The cocker is fun even off the field there is always something you can do or learn with it. Then intimidator is everything I want in a paintslinger...light (enough), faster than I'd ever want or need, efficient, good sound, and great feel.

I have an X-mag and an MQ'd 04 bonebrake excalibur. I think the excal is a far far superior marker functionality-wise, but I think the X-mag is about the prettiest marker ever made. Hopefully I can afford to keep both, but if I had to have one, it'd be the excal.

I have an:

X Mag
Z Mag (2)
Regular Classic Mags (6)
Pump Mag
ULE Mag (4?)
Angel IR3
System X NME
Vertebrate
Sniper
Phantom
PT Extreme
AIM Eagle Pump Cocker
DM3

I think that's the collection currently.

I've had and recently sold:

System X Cockers
ETek
Mini
Angel LCD
Misc Classic Mags
MicroMags
EMag
PneuMag

hmmmmm... And I've shot most other things out there as I play quite often and I have plenty of folks around that don't mind lending guns to try out. I personally don't like electronic guns. And for the longest time never owned one. Then I shot a couple and was like ahhhhhhhhhhhh saweeeetttt... So then I started collecting some of my own. I loved how light the trigger was. Well since then I've learned that with the right setup and an ULT or Pneu setup that you can get the super light trigger pull as well as the reactive pulse of the gun to keep up with a velocity at full throttle I've started getting more mags again but getting rid of Classic Valves and getting X Valves with ULT's on them.

I know this way the battery will never die. Funny thing though. AND many here have seen it. I didn't matter if I took out my ETek, Angel, Mini, Pump, X, NME, etc.... I almost always just had a little pocket hopper on top. I don't shoot fast. I like to make my shots count. I've hit more than one person in a full tilt boogy run shooting 2-4 shots at him with a pump gun without autotrigger. I now have an AT pump and have found that I'm so used to doing it normal that I never AT it anyway.

What I like about mags is really when you get them setup they like to stay that way. When you get the regs and rings broken in and with some good paint you get VERY consistent shots over the chrono. You get it tuned right and you get a very quiet shot that noone hears. Mags to me (Most of em) make a very subtle "poof" sound not a metallic "clang" or loud "POP" I know that Z's DM3 if SUPER QUIET as well though and that's one of the reasons I picked on up.

What makes any of them better or worse. You decide. I like em all for certain reasons but in the end you can see that I do like Mags. I like the single tube, low profile design. I like the simple moving parts. I like the fact that you can disassemble the entire thing with a 1/8" allen wrench. I like the fact the batteries don't die. I like the fact you can submerge it freely and it will thank you for it. I like that you modify the daylights out of it and in the end you still have the 3 or 4 main parts that don't change function only form.

hmmmm.... I'm sure there are things I missed but well maybe someone else will post it up.

I love playing with my mag. I really enjoy my DM5 but the mag is just more fun, and my level 10 works just fine.

I WILL own a mech mag again someday.... as soon as I can get a rogue rail....

Right now:
A1
Pump mag(soon anyhow, it's being milled for the pump)
phantom
PGP
F7

That's about it I think. I'll probably add an ion and sniper to the mix soon, don't care what anyone says ions are sweet markers when you build them from the ground up.

Since I got back into paintball 4 years ago I have been shooting AGD stuff but recently took an interest in AKA markers. I love the feel, the way they shoot and the overall quality of them. These two companies will remain in my gearbag.

Everybody better buy AKA while there still available. Once this guy gets going, he won't stop buying them.

Nahh he'll run out of steam soon im sure.. some X's have come and gone without him snatching them up.

Either that or he will have to start selling his X's to get those AKA's. And I'll be one of the first in line :D

Im sure the X-Mags he will pick up will be unique in some way or another. When you have as many as he does, you gotta have good reason to pick up more.

Hey now! I could stop anytime I want.:nunchaku: Just haven't found that time yet.

Actually your correct. I now look for things like my 1 of 2 "720" XMag or original ano'd Xmags that aren't common colors.

i am a fan of mags, aka, and macdev.

I do have about 20+ markers, all which see some action throught the year. But the 3 mentioned above are generally playing some time each day.

i've just recently had to slow down and sell some stuff off. but i'm keeping my two project mags and the first marker i ever bought....... the spyder compact.

so i have a custom pnuemag stormwalk tac-one and a custom hyperframe'd q-loaded minimag that i use.

i pull out the spyder at the end of the day when my friends have had enough of me romping around in the woods. :D

I pretty much only shoot mags. I just got a VSC phantom though. Playing pump is a blast. I bought an xmag and the phantom in the same week. The phantom has seen significantly more playing time so far.
