I guess these things happen in all kinds of martial arts venues...MMA as well as TKD.

Maybe, but you don't act like that when you're on the "world's biggest stage" representing your country... let alone dishonor the sport.

Totally agreed. What I meant was that this seems to happen regardless of the martial arts discipline and that TKD isnt immune to their participants acting like jackasses.

he's from cuba, enough said really imho.

you cant take animals out of the country and not expect them to behave.

PS the type of TKD in the olympics is the communist form of north korea, ie the WTF.

Please dont confuse its sloppy technique with the ITF.:footinmouth:

Sloppy technique...psshhh..it's the competitive style. What makes you say it's sloppier then traditional (ITF) Tae Kwon Doe?

I assume that the Tae Kwon Doe events have already aired?

Then again, Cuba...he will probably be taken out and shot for losing. Sounds like he really didn't have anything to lose.

its the difference of listening to someone freestyle rap or recite shakespere. ive yet to see the WTF practicioner impress me with technique. Its all a speed game. it throw my leg up, and dont punch.. i can do without it, and compared to what we do...very sloppy.

Well, see it's all a matter of opinion. I would rather hear someone freestyle then recite Shakespeare, assuming the person could actually freestyle. But I see what you are saying.

You would be correct in saying that WTF is more about speed, but throwing a scoring kick takes proper technique. It may not be the same technique that you ITF guys try to achieve, but it does indeed take a lot of practice and commitment to be able to properly perform. That would be why the average joe isn't on the US TKD team.

"it throw my leg up, and don't punch.." Umm we are talking about Tae Kwon Doe here correct? Which is primarily kicking techniques. The martial art that emphasizes the power and reach that the leg provides over the arms. Just want to make sure we are taking about the same martial art. Then again I've only studied in a WTF school which was almost strictly a competitive school. Maybe the emphasis is completely different, but from my understanding if that was the case..it wouldn't be TKD.

When I was still competing I would see some very different Poom Sae then that of what we studied. If I recall correctly these were generally a bit more eye catching (for lack of a better term) were as ours were more about defense. I suppose those could have been ITF trained martial artists.

By the way if some of that comes off offensive I didn't mean it to be..so don't take it too seriously.

Do you still train? What's your rank?

5 dan (20 years, started when i was 11) yes still training, tho i took a few months off to enjoy the daughter. WE are not flashy but traditional and effective. Sport TKD ruined the art and disispline as far as i am concerned. no offense taken. same with mma, most fights i cant enjoy due to the sloppiness and lack of what looks like technique.

I can't comment on TKD, but in all fairness, technique is not necessarily the most important thing in an MMA fight, and is probably the first thing to go out the window in a real fight. General concepts work fine, but it's hard to pull off a textbook move when your opponent isn't launching a textbook attack.

i can understand that i i have spent a few years ground fighting with a jui jitsu instructor that teaches on friday nights. However. TEchnique is needed to become an automatic reflex. So when that opening occurs its becomes automatic, thoughtless a counter action. The martial art of Aikido is one that comes to mind. Repetition and the pursuit there of, well of technique allows the martial artist to be able to react and if its some type of off hand attack or a little different, the technique alters to match the attack. But if the technique was not there to begin with, then its all just a fisticuffs of who gets lucky or hits harder. I have seen some sweet fights, mma and full contact kickboxing, where all of a sudden, bam, where did that come from.

its the same as learning to catch a baseball. You first get the technique down of securing the catch and becoming where its automatic, and then over time your are able to deal with a variance of throws. you wouldnt throw a curve ball to someone just learning to catch.

when technique is thrown out the window its a °°°°'s guess who will win. and there are fighters that do this. Youll never see such fighters pull a submission out of there °°° when they are getting pounded, like with some better fighters.

Even from a ground fighting aspect - you learn the techniques. passing the gard, arm bars, side mount, leg wrenches, turtling the neck so you dont get chocked, sprawling the legs so you dont get taken down. I'd rather fight someone who threw technique out the window. Because when i fight Jose on Friday he takes all the wild stuff i can muster and plays with me until hes ready to submitt me or i tap.

Not that i totally dissagree with you ratt, but technique carries along way in most sports.
