alright...I'm starting to think about pumps. I'd like everyone's opinion on which would be best and why. Pump mag, pump cocker, or CCM. My criteria will be mostly based on Price/ease of building, reliability/consistency, and looks. also, if you can suggest any others I dont know about, that would be cool, but I picked these 3 to start with because of what I've seen and heard so far.
Now please enlighten me, O great paintball gurus :smarty:

CCM is by far the cadillac of pumps. Very well manufactured, and sweet as silk pie to shoot.
If you are on a budget look at cocker snipers, or phantoms. You can get good ones for under $300.

i'm clueless about pump mags and snipers but my CCM S6 is amazing...
pump mags are nice, very nice stroke, and well, its a mag, the sniper can be put together for VERY cheap

If money is not a factor definetly get a ccm.
Being that money is a factor I would go with a cocker with a ccm pump kit.
I have a cocker with a ccm pump kit and I love it. The cheapness of a cocker with the smoothness of a ccm. Even the wgp pump kits are smooth. Unless you tend to twist the handle when you pump. Which I did.
I am also building a pump mag. For the sake of having a pump mag. It will most likely be my loaner/back up pump. Why you ask? Because to make it a pump you are basically breaking your semi. You are adding a spring to cause it not to recock, so that you can recock it manually.
If you do want a cheap cocker I have one for sale. 02 right feed with a wgp pump kit.
So in summation:
In order of smoothness (In my opinion): smooth to not as smooth
ccm
cocker
pumpmag
phantom
In order of price: expensive to cheap
ccm
pumpmag
phantom
cocker

While I love my SV, I also love my Phantom for totally different reasons.
SV and CCM pumps - great for nonstock class pumping. There is nothing like a good working autotrigger. Even thou I've only played with one a couple times it's a blast. Sure ya feel like your cheat'n a bit but still it's fun.
Phantom - Light small and a great pump stroke after time. With a little tuning the Phantom can be very efficient. I run a stock class set up. It's how I like to play with a phantom.
If I feel like a little more firepower on the field and still wanna play pump, CCM or sniper. If I want to go light and fast, Phantom or a PGP.
Good luck and if your play'n pump there's no wrong answer...just play.

Believe it or not, a ccm series pump with an autorigger is actually good for a beginner albeit expensive. It's size is comfortable enough so you don't get thrown off by the weight like you do when you first start using a phantom. It keeps you from short stroking since the autotrigger cam will keep you from firing until the pump arm is in the forward position, and you can use your existing equipment to play with this marker to ease your transition.
If you have the cash go for the ccm. If not I would go for any open class sniper. If you haven't played pump before it'd be a big jump switching to a stock class setup. You can go modified stock on a ccm after a while, you can modify the feedneck and have one easily setup. :D

CCM then a Pumpmag. The CCM because they are super smooth and the pumpmag because they are novelty and yet are competent and confident shooters.....its a mag for gosh sakes. "Outlaw5"

Since you are building one and none of your criteria is smoothness. Go with a cocker pump with a ccm pump kit. I can't say how smooth a ccm pump is but my 04' sniper with a ccm pump is about as smooth as a carter buzzard.
Pumping smoothness is also attributed to your springs, as well.
Go all CCM, definitely.
CCM as well!
Or find a cheap cocker and throw a CM pump kit on it.
I've been using my CCM Series 5 (semi) for the past 4 years and it has been awesome. I'm considering getting a pump kit for it too.
