Here's a response I gave on PBN to someone's comment about Craig's performance:

a sysnmapsisi of a bond film
Opening action with the end of minor bond mission
goes back to the office, flirts with money penny, debriefs and gets a new assignment
goes and sees Q and gets some slick gadges
mission (useually involves sleeping with the woman of the evil guy)

I dont really even like this current bond in general he doesnt fit the profile, the thing that was cool about bond is that he wasnt jacked and could still kick °°° through engenuitity and the figting in this one from the camera angles felt too Bourne.

I find him to be a great Bond actually. Like Timothy Dalton, he's very gritty. He's playing the young, inexperienced Bond, that's why he doesn't seem so familiar to you. And despite what you may think, he actually is playing the role very close to the character that Flemming created. Don't forget, this is still the first Bond book lol! Bond hasn't been with MI-6 for very long and is still a very different character than he is later in the series. Too many people are looking at Craig to continue the tradition of Bond when he is in fact building up into that.

I don't think it was a run of the mill action movie. There was a lot of storyline and mystery/intrigue that Flemming intended. I cannot wait for the third installment that will wrap up Casino Royale. I think it will be great and when you look back on it, Craig will be seen as having done a great job at essentially creating the Bond we already know from the previous movies.

I think that sums up my feelings quite nicely. Oh, and I'm so excited for the 3rd movie so I can be right about this secret organization being Spectre.

EDIT: After reading on the internet and realizing that I missed this in the movie, I realize that the organization was named and is not SPECTRE. It's definitely supposed to be them though lol.

I enjoyed Casino Royale, but it was a little too long with a few too many plot twists towards the end. At the same time, I think Daniel Craig is quite good as James Bond. I plan on seeing the new film sometime this week.

Yes, but unlike Dalton, Craig is a good "Bond". Hell, George Lazenby played a better Bond than Dalton did.

The Ian Flemming books were not bad, but as teenagers in the mid 60's we read them mainly for the naughty bits. Sean Connery established the Bond series. There's no sense in trying to “out Bond” him in the old tradition. Many have tried and failed.

I like this new James Bond. The Bond character is smart, sophisticated and plenty tough, but vulnerable. Daniel Craig can take this interpretation to places even Connery couldn't go. It's a much needed re-start. I look forward to seeing Craig continue to stretch 007's impact on the spy world.

I enjoyed this film a lot and agree with you guys that Daniel Craig makes a great Bond. It's also a nice change to have a Bond who doesn't rely on Q's high tech Spy gadgets.

I disagree. I think Lazenby was by far the worst Bond, followed by Moore and Brosnan. Connery, Craig, and Dalton are in the top 3 for me.

That's of course my opinion though.

May we agree to disagree.

Connery has been and will be the best. No argument there. Craig is good, a very literary Bond, especially in Casino Royale. Dalton was just too 80's for me. Moore was ok at best. Brosnan was great in "Golden Eye" but things flat lined out with "Tomorrow Never Dies". I think he redeemed himself in "Die Another Day" but ultimately he is no Connery.

If Craig continues this path I believe he will be a shadow step behind Connery for the contention of the title.

I think Daniel Craig is getting the attention because he's a different sort of Bond. All of the old Bonds were a bit campy so by the time it got to Brosnan, he had to play him a certain way. I like all of the Bonds personally. Even George Lazenby.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, Dirty Harry meets the global Illuminati in big action cinema! The cynical metaphor of a greedy force infiltrating such things as ALL governments, global commerce, natural resources and even the environmental movement (LOL) really resonates with me. Bond manages to stay above it by killing as many of these bad guys' lackeys as he possibly can, while steadfastly maintaining his sense of honor and loyalty. He even manages to defeat some personal demons in the end. This is my kind of anti-anti hero. IMO, Daniel Craig can claim James Bond as his own now. I would still like a bit less action and more of Craig in Bond character development, but the ride was fun and well worth the ticket price.

Craig has Bond down perfect, just as I think the books made him out to be. As stated above, he ditched the snazzy 50's "spy gadgets" and went back to how the books portrayed him. A womanizing °°° kicker.

I love how this bond has no problem smashing himself through anything in his way as well.

We went to see it last night and really enjoyed it. I missed Casino Royal at the movies but watched it on DVD a few days ago. The stories are inter-linked (unlike other 007 films), and we were advised to see Casino first. I guess I do miss some of the trick gadgets, but it does make the story more real world. Noticably less naked totty in the latest Bond flicks as well.

Looking forward to part 3 of the trilogy :D
