Is it just me or has PE really run out of ideas to market, some of the features they're advertizing are just sad.

2008 was a good year for some new products: the Vice and Protege, the Droid, the SLG, the Magna, Torque, and JRNY, etc. Eclipse really missed the boat.

I'm gonna hafta agree with you on this, it seems like the improvements are far and few, and minor at best.

I'll be honest though, i'd rather shoot that and a ma.g At least theyre out doing SOMETHING instead of sitting in stagnant water doing...well. Is rotting an appropriate verb?

I don't know considering that the Protege is $100 cheaper I'd get that a 4 eye kit, and a barrrel thats alot better than the shaft. It'd be about the same price, and a much better marker. I think Bob Long officially kicked the crap out of Eclipse this year. You know Mags are my favorite Mech marker, but I'd use my Spyder VS befor I'd use my mag most days. Sad but true. I'd better put on my flame resistant suit now.

No flaming. If you like using the VS thats cool, they seem to be pretty slick inexpensive markers. I am gonna buy one for christmas for my daughter and I plan to play with it plenty. I always use my AUTOMAG but that should be changing soon.

Why would anyone think they were gonna get more with the 2008 ETEK. I recall the 2007 ETEK being the same thing...and I plan on buying one of those 2007 ETEKS after X-Mas.

I am not sure this will be well recieved but... I need more from Bob Long Tec. then what I am hearing for me to get on that wagon. Every field I play at has air about a 3 min walk away from the fields so this shot count stuff really does not matter to me. But mostly for BLAST to stop backdooring the markers and hurting local shops. Evertime I turned around someone knew someone and got a good deal on their timmy while local shops had to offer deep discounts to move them. Might just be a local problem but it has been a sore spot for a while.

Same old same old.. hype hype hype.. gotta get something together for the '08 line and call it new and improved.. blah blah blah.

This constant 'model year' war is going to kill retail of markers, and HAS killed re-sale value of markers.

Maybe it is a benefit of getting older or something, but I am in the 'stick with what works' mode, instead of keeping up with the agglets.

I don't know much about Ego's/ Eteks....however the few people I do know who have them seem to love them to death. They gush on and on about them....

They're good markers, they preform just like an Intimidator. Thats kind of the problem considering they cost twice as much.

And the list of new "Features" isn't mindblowing, but it IS an improvement over the '07. The list is of things that changed, not necessarily functional improvements.

And based on my experience with Eclipse guns and my experience with BobLong guns, I'd get any EGO over a Timmy/Protege or a Timmy/

I've owned almost every gun over the years, and my EGOs have been the easiest to maintain of them all. YMMV, but that's my $.02

As far as Eclipse getting is butt kicked this year, ALL i see out on the fields out here are EGOs or Tippmanns with the occasional mag.

sepplainer- get one of the ETeks, you'll love it. I had a great year with mine. So good, that i recently bought an 08 EGO for the weight reduction, LCD Controls, smaller size, opto trigger and, well, I just wanted one. ;)

I don't really want to turn this into a Bob Long thread, if you check out my threads on the Vice and Protege they talk about some of the changes. The Intimidator has changed quite a bit with each different generation. Basically they have made as dramatic and sometimes much more dramatic changes to each generation as Eclipse did with the Ego7.


The Ego was a very popular marker, but the SL66 seemed to kind of be its popularity peak(around here) since then people have kind of wanted something new and the Egos sales are rather down. Then the Ego7 frame problem really hurt thier reputation(at least around here). The recall on the Ego8 will probably hurt it further. These problems may be the reason more than the lack of changes as the Matrix which changes about the same as the Ego has held pretty steady.

My thing with the Etek2 is they should charge less or upgrade more as I don't see it being a very competative seller next year. The only hope it really has IMO is the Ego's reputation as its just too much more money than alot of markers that are as good and better than it spec wize. Planet Eclipe needs to change the look of thier markers more if nothing else to keep them selling. Since the Ego an the Alias style Timmy are basically the same marker I could care less between the two personally, but the Timmys looks sell it(around here) more.

I didn't mean to be real argumentative, we've all got opinions.
This year's (08) ETek is just an incremental update, but it's decent. If Eclipse dropped the price $100 or so it would be a great seller and a good deal.

The recalls DO have me frustrated- I got an 08 Ego a little while back and the reg recall is super annoying.

Eclipse and Dye can get away with small updates and people will keep buying the new guns because of all the exposure the guns have with pro teams. It was like that with Intimidators 6 years ago.

Oh,and we agree that [for better or worse] looks sell.

Yes, if it was $100 cheaper then it would sell. Now I'm not sure it will. There is just too much competition from Bob Long, Invert, Dye, and DP that is much cheaper.
