Well, its finally been released. I'm not sure if I like the look, but the Protege looks way better in real life than in the first pics that Bob Long released so we'll see this could be the same way. I should have some in in a few days and I'll get some pics of them then.

If nothing else it has some very nice features especially considering its price.
For the Gen 5 Timmys they have compleatly redesigned Ram and poppit system, done away with the Rocket cap compleatly, redesigned the bolt system, shortened the marker(its now about the same lenth as the mini), changed the regulators, use a new valve, it uses a Marq frame and board, is 4 eye compatable, and will now get over 2000 shots off of a 68/4500psi.
This over the Protege: This is lighter, more intricatly milled, comes with a Tadao board, has a pillow bolt, a lever lock feedneck, Marqee 2 piece barrel, and is even more air efficient do to some internal upgrades.

Its funny because the Ego is a Timmy clone:rofl2:
I just talked to one of the testers, he claims he got 11 Pods off of a 68/45 tank that was only filled to about 2600PSI. Its also the lightest marker out right now. Plus it has the Pillow bolt, Tadao board, Marqee Barrel, bearing trigger, lever lock feed neck, and is 4 eye compatable. With this at $750 it makes all the other high end stuff seem very very overpriced.

Kind of but not really, its a similar theory but thats about it. The only difference between the Timmy and the Ego is where the bolt locks onto the ram and afew pointless QEVs.

They shoot ok, but they are not for me.
That and I am still not much of a Bob Long fan in general.

Not much of a fan, and really considering that Bob (along with several others) just barely evolved the basic stacked tube concept....I just never have been too crazy about evolved clones.
Sorry, a Spyder by any other name......

Bob Long needs to stop pumping out ugly guns like Brittany needs to stop pumping out ugly kids...
This thing is no better looking than the past timmies.
The eye covers look like they have NO business being there they screw up the whole flow, and what the hell is up with that little flaw just ahead of the eyes?
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c348/neppo1345/vice.jpg
Making complex curves flow together is tough...but if you can't do it correctly don't even bother. My eye is just drawn to it every time I look at the gun.
Also, to everyone comapring it to the Ego:
At least Eclipse switched some things up in 2007, the timmy has been the same (with the exception of the clamshell switch in 04(?)) since 2000. Eclipse at least tried something new.

Eclipse never switched anything up. What did they do give you the option of optical or micro switch? What did they try new? Eclipse stole Bob Longs gen 3 design added worthless QEVs and learned how to hype it to Aggletts nothing more.
As far as the Timmys being the same since 2000. There are 5 generations of Intimidators the newest being the Protege and Vice. All five are very very different as well as differences within each generation from year to year. From the gen four(06) to gen five(08) there are alot of differences. First a whole new valve, built in volumizer, whole new ram and popit system, new board style, 4 eye system, new bolt style, new regulator, new selanoid style, whole new frame, and a huge wieght loss. Plus its now the most air efficient marker out by far. Whats the difference between the Ego6 and Ego8? Not much at all really. I am an Eclipse dealer as well, this isn't some Bob Long dealer bashing the competition deal(actually I have a slightly higher mark up on Eclipse stuff) its the facts of the matter.
Also, to everyone comapring it to the Ego:
This is lighter, much more air efficient, has less recoil, has a better board, is less likely to break paint, won't bend in half at the frame, has a better warenty, hasn't already had a major recall due to shody manufacturing, and is $500 cheaper than an Ego 8.

Looks terrible, but it'd look SLIGHTLY better with a longer barrel.
Imagine it with a 16 incher and it looks a LITTLE better. 'Longer' setups IMO look better but jesus those lines make me lol.
It reminds me of heading into the Voided warranty section and looking and children ruin their markers with dremels.

The only people who know if thise statments are true work for Bob Long. You don't have one in your hands to tell us if any of the salesmens comments were true right? I have never seen a EGO or ETEK "bend in half at frame". I would rather have an ETEK over any timmy.
BL timmys = first agglet guns.

I do have a Protege and they are true. The only real difference between this and the Protege is the barrel, board, and milling. The Ego 7 has had quite a few problems bending at the frame they shaved so much off of it to get it light that they kind of comprimised the frame quality they may have fixed that for the Ego8 time will tell but the 8 has already had one major recall and it hasn't been out that long. You still can't get around the fact that the Ego is in fact a Timmy clone. I'm done bashing the EGO, this thread is about the Vice not the Ego. Every one is entitled to thier opinion, mine just happend to be that while this marker is kind of ugly it is the best new highend marker this year. And its undeniable that its $500 cheaper than anything near its level of performance. You can get alot of paint for $500. Go find someone with a Gen 5 Timmy and try it, I promise you'll be impressed this is the first new marker to come out in a while I am actually excited about.

To me it looks like a Marq 6 that someone ran over and flattened out. I'm not real big on the look, a longer barrel would help. With where they shortened the body so much(its about as long as the Mini) it looks too tall, if it was stretched out the length of an Alias it would look better as well. The Protege is simply amazing so I'm sure this will be an awsome preformer.

Agreed on all points, Bryce.
De-rail commencing;
I remember when the Alias and newer style timmies came out. I liked them so much more than the older styles not simply because of any improve internally, but because of the frame geometry and placement thereof.
It made SUCH a huge difference, those older dragon timmies made me cringe, but they actually looked a great deal better with the newer frames.
It's difficult for me to knock any gun on any sort of serious note aside from aesthetics, if it'll put paint on someone else, I'll shoot it.

The Gen 1 Timmys were hidious, 2s were OK ish kind of, the Gen three(alias) style look best IMO(and thats when they fixed that horrable FSDO problem which was a big plus). The A-Bomb is still my favorite Intimidator. I'll shoot most stuff, but I am very picky about quality as I am very hard on my gear it gets banged up and beat up real fast(don't buy my old used markers) and I expect it to keep working flawlessly. That use to be about everything, but now alot of stuff just doesn't stand up.

I hated the newer style timmies, as far as I know, there were only like what, three of them? The two team ones, and the generic one. (Unless Im getting my gen's mixed up)
I liked the longer bodies.
I think we're all in agreement that the attatched picture sums up this new marker.

There was only one or two Gen 1s, there were afew Gen 2s the Dragon, 2K2, Species, Ironman(ripper), and maybe afew others, TONS of Gen 3s the Alias, Lasoya, Infamous, Empire, Abomb, Ripper 2, Rage, and alot more, there were three Gen 4s the 06 Empire, 06 Infamous, and Ripper 3, The Gen 5s so far are the Protege and Vice.
In a color other than silver with a longer barrel the vice may look OK, but yes from what we have now I'm not a huge fan yet but the Protege looks alot better in person than in the pics. I see the Vice milling being either you love it or you hate it with no real middle ground.

So the tolerances are the same? I can take apart my 05 ego and swap the parts with a timmy... I think not. Theres a big difference between "stealing a design" and "improving on an existing design". If thats the case then all bob did was seal off the lower tube of a spyder and add a solenoid.

The Ego has been around for three years and is alread on it's second iteration. 05, 06 -> 07: Got rid of rammer sleeve, new ram and poppit, new LPR, new board, new grip frame, went from sprung trigger to magnetic, new solenoid, innovative T Rail, AND the choice between a micro switch or break beam trigger.
This is lighter, much more air efficient, has less recoil, has a better board, is less likely to break paint, won't bend in half at the frame, has a better warenty, hasn't already had a major recall due to shody manufacturing, and is $500 cheaper than an Ego 8.
I dont have a weight on the vice...do you?
I don't have an effeciency number on the vice...do you?
I have never shot a vice...have you?
Please explain why the board is so superior, and how is it less likely to break paint?
Shoddy manufacturing? You've got to be kidding me. Thats the reason why long still uses ram sleeves; because they can't control the tolerences tightly enough on their bodies. Recalls happen. Eclipse could just have easily never said a word about it (theres no safety concern).

All the stuff for the Ego7 from the Ego6 with the exception of the regs didn't do anything for the preformance, it didn't make it more effiecient, better on paint, faster, nothing. It was all astetics and ergonomics depending on who you ask. I'm through with the Ego argument. If you like your Ego good for you. To set things straight.
1. I did not introduce the Ego discussion into this thread, mearly commented on it. You apparently took some great offense to the fact that another gun is better than a Timmy.
2. Pulling the "I'm a dealer and a certified technician" card to act like your opinion means anything is halarious. I've met more "certified technicians" than you could imagine who dont know their **** from a screwdriver . I'm a player who has played with both, and from my standpoint the ego is better. If the dealers and techs like a gun better, good for them. We'll let them keep bob long in business.
3. Of course they're similar. Theres only so many ways to use pressurized fluid to accelerate a projectile to 300fps. I love when people aren't mentally capable of understanding nuances between products. I guess you think that Honda ripped off GM too eh? They both have an engine, 4 doors, and will do 65 mph. I mean damn, thats like the exact same thing.
I'll leave it at that.

I like the low profile as opposed to the stacked tubes. But isn't that type of valve (the Marq) a little less efficeint.
IIRC the Marq is a spool and the Timmies are a popit. Is this right? I am no way an expert on them though.
I have never even shot a Bob Long gun.

The Marq is a new inline popit, its alot different than anything else I've ever seen, its extremely easy maintenace. Its about the same efficencey as the Alias Intimidators(I can shoot round about 1600 balls on my 68/4500). Its got good efficiency, but not as good as the Gen 5 Timmys.

I own Angels, DMCs, DM 5 and a Viking along with many mags.
I have never shot a Bob Long gun. I have heard stories about their reliability so I just styed away. But you really seem to make a good case for them. I may have to get a Marq
Never shot a $h0ck3r either, only an eyeon. :D

I like espee markers.
Isn't it weird how Tom Kaye copied the single tube design?

IIRC, That is when the automag was introduced.
So did Tom really copy the design or was it the other way around?

I have heard stories about their reliability so I just styed away.
If people read the manuals they are very very reliable. Biggest thing with Bob Long markers is people use Dow 33 which doesn't swell the O-rings and you end up with leaks and other issues. If they would just use Dow 55 like Bob suggests they would have no problem at all. Also alot of people try to run the LPRs at way too low of a pressure, I think thats why Bob went to the LPR system he did on the Marq and new Timmys people are much less prone to tinkering this way.

What are the color options going to get on this? A black dust with red (maybe deep green, granted I just want a green gun and not an olive or flourecent) parts would probably look nice. Basically turn all the black red, be subtle enough not to be over powering, but still noticable.
Although hopefully this weekend we will be able to see the real pics not the marketing one.

I wouldn't kick it outta bed. However the newer markers out there, save the Angel just don't do anything for me. It's nice, cool milling...that's it. I'd rather put $750 towards a pneumag, emag, xvalved mag, classic mag or a nice cocker with some soul.
Just me.

I shot a timmy before, and was not a fine. I am liking these new ones though. I am gonna try one out when I get the chance and may or may not buy one. If I like it, I'll drop you a line, Bryce. Also, the 4-eye mod obviously gives the marker 4 eyes (I assume). What is the point of doing this? Does it help anything significantly?

The 4 eye system times how long it takes for a ball to go from the top set of eyes to the bottom and sets the firing cycle accordingly to make sure the ball is fully in the breach befor it fires so that even the last few balls won't be chopped. Plus if one set of eyes is blocked or has a problem or something it will override it and function like a normal 2 eyes with the working set(I've never had this happen, but its a cool idea). I use the four eye kit in my Marq and have still never chopped a single ball.

Oh wow that's cool provided it really works the way it should. That is awesome. I am really toying with the idea of getting a Timmy or Ego lately. I like the look of the Timmy better usually so was leaning that way. If I get to a point that I can afford one I'll shoot you a PM.

Just let me know, I'll have them.
The new intimidators look a lot better in colors.
I'm sure they'll sell well.
