This legislation is so broad based that technically someone with a little backyard garden could get fined and have their property siezed. It will effect anyone who produces food even if they do not sell but only consume it. It will literally put all independent farmers and food producers out of business due to the huge amounts of money it will take to conform to factory farming methods. If people choose to farm without industry standards such as chemical pesticides and fertilizers they will be subject to a vareity of harassment from this completely new agency that has never before existed.

Not much of a suprise. It appears all forms of capitalism are under attack. Even down to the local backyard gardener.

Not just capitalism, but all of self reliance. Self reliance would not be conducive to the political goals of the current powers that be. So, it looks like Uncle Sugar wants to be your only source of sugar. After all, why pay Uncle Sugar if you produce for yourself? If you are a salient individual, how can Uncle Sugar leverage you? "Oh how great is our leader that is so kind to feed us, clothe us, fill our fuel tanks, pay our mortgages/bills, and protect us from ourselves." That is what is coming.

You already pointed out the gardening point, but it also effects consumables derived from game. Anybody who wishes to produce anything for any reason is penalized; that will be the new law of the land, or so it seems.

So call your reps and tell them what you think. If all we do is sit and gripe on the internet then nothing will ever be done about it, make some noise that actually matters.

Arizona being a Republican State, I have sent Emails and subscribed to Govwatch to keep an eye on the votes of my representatives.

So far every vote has represented my values and I feel that I am being represented well.

My problem is that my vote is on the losing side. So no matter how many times McCain votes NO... it just doesn't matter or change a thing.

And In two years it wont matter either, because my state is already all republican... how can I vote out a Dem, when I dont have any to vote out...

I'm in the same boat, except that frequently my rep think he knows better then the general pubic and doesn't listen. Especially now that the state is trying to get the bailout or whatever you want to call it to pay for our crazy expensive geothermal power plant. Still always have to try to let them know how you feel.
