I tried planes but it didn't work out too well. I found out rather quickly that, unlike a car, it has no air brakes to help you avoid things like tall trees... lol... Any pictures of your planes and heli's?

I did/do combat robotics... Kinda like RC but with a destructive twist.

That must have been great to do... I've watched it a few times on TV and was always amazed to what people come up with.

Cars and planes over the years but finally got into boats. Helps owning a lake to play in.

It's not that hard to get into. The "hard" part is locating an event to play at. I went as far a purchasing a "battle box" for light 'bots.
To keep it relatively cheap I stick to the 150 gram, 1 pound and 3 pound classes. I've had 2 of my 3 pound robots banned from 3 competitions for being "too destructive". Our team had one club cancel all future combat events due to the destruction we caused. We've had opponents "tap out" when we revved up the weapon's motor at the start of the match.
We used to make "best hits" reels all of the time.
I used to play with these folks. http://www.nerc.us/
Here is a partial list of robot clubs. Some *might* be combat oriented: http://circ.mtco.com/roboticsclubs.htm

I fly...helis and planes.
Cars are boring, but less expensive.
I've come to a crossroads where I think I may have to get rid of my heli in order to keep playing paintball.
Any suggestions for a decent on or off road car/truck/buggy?

I'll get those pics up of the Boat/lake. I've got a new motor and ESC coming to me to makes things more interesting.

Stopped with RC cars to play paintball. Maybe i'll pick it up again, but for know i like tinkering with paintball guns and shooting them, instead of tinkering and crashing RC's.

I have a bunch of folks in my area with helis and big planes, but their main complaint is finding space to in the NY/NJ Metro area to fly. We have a large local park that has 4 baseball fields and is approx 20 - 30 feet lower than the parking lot, so heli and plane owners love it, but they need to get there early as baseball or soccer games are usually played on 3 out of the 4 fields. On a small Pee-Wee baseball field outback there typically isn't anyone on it, so I can basically arrive at anytime with my kids and we can usually drive around without much interruption.
It's more of a hobby that I can enjoy with the kids right now as they are a little young to play paintball. My son can't wait until he's 10 so he can play... but he still has 2 years to go. Right now he has given a few adult racers a run for their money at out local track.
Let's see... RC recommendations... I've always been partial to Losi and Jammin buggies or truggies. You can readily find the parts and there are websites dedicated to their gear and modifications. I prefer truggys to buggys now... a truggy is a mix between a truck and a buggy. Nitro has always brought extra thrill as you also need to fine tune the engine for peak performace and it's a gas and go type of racing/bashing. Electrics are great, but you need a ton of batteries or multiple cargers. A gallon of Nitro usually lasts us three or four trips to the park or two weekends at the track. If you're into tinkering then I recommend a kit as you need to put the whole thing together, purchase an engine and electronics. An RTR or Ready to Run, comes complete and all you typically need to do is purchase gas and batteries for the remote and reciever. Kits usually come with most of the necessary upgrades while RTRs usually replace aluminum parts with plastic.
I'm currently building a Team Losi 8ight Truggy and the three in the above picture are Jammin CRT.5 Truggies.

Here ya go... mounted and ready for some dirt... lol... White wheels are on the way...
Can't find my flash, so I snapped a few pictures in the kitchen. The lighting isn't so great, but it will do for now... I'll try to take some pictures outside, but it's tough as I'm very busy in the office lately. For now... enjoy and let me know what you think...

I'd have to locate an event that allows gas engines! Most of the events I attend are electric only. They don't want to deal with the extra hassles of nitro fires.
If I find an event, I'll look you up!
