I miss getting excited this time of year for the new releases. Going to World Cup, and being a part of the buzz...its no longer there.

I miss going out to play with the core group that used to do it every weekend or every other.

I miss the times when industry news was interestering and insightful. When WARPIG was the place to go, when PSP events & NPPL events were worth going to.

I miss some of the interesting guys that used to post on AO....Jack&Coke is but one I recollect.

I miss that when I couldnt get out to the field, knowing that I could live vicariously through reading about someone elses day out playing paintball. That happens far less now.

This is but a short list...how things can change in just a few years:wall:

I hear you.. and I agree.

I used to play every sunday with a group when I was starting out. We had pumps, and we would split a case of paint. We would always have some beverages around, and it was a great time.

Sadly, we all have since moved on. Some still play, some don't. I can't tell you why I still love this game as I really have never found that same camaraderie from that original group.

I have been introduced to a group of folks back home that personify the qualities from my original 'dirty dozen' back in the day. I am looking forward to hanging with them. I will let you know.

damn.. reminiscing like this makes me feel old..

Pass the Geritol will you Shawn?

Back in the years 1991-94 we didn't follow paintball as a "professional" sport or care much about the paintball world as a whole. We played para-military style paintball in the woods near the Santa Ynez River. Our group was comprised of kids, high school students and adults. Our rag tag group did drive up to Atascadero, Ca (a much more populated area) and clobber the team up there. For one reason or another, we took about 10 years off and then returned to the game in 2004. Now the group we meet with plays para-military style paintball in the woods near the Santa Ynez River and we have added a speedball field for variety. Most of the faces have changed but our group today is made up of kids, high school students and adults. It's like nothing has really changed, except that the equipment has gotten better. I guess it's one of the benefits of living in a rural area. I'm content to live in the land that time forgot.

I recall i guy that used to frequent my home field back in PA when i started in 97. Damned if i can remember his name. But he was such a mad scientist of paintball. He would always show up with these crazy tube creations trying to make a paintball mortar, or some wierd automated turret, or quad barreled things, he was the nicest guy. Always let me volenteer to be a guinne pig for his crazy hair-brained ideas. I remember belonging to a field that had one of the first tanks. Hell, i remember trucking around in that thing feeling awefully mighty. I remember going to Castle Conquest with my team, and sneaking out to the castle the night before with my Captain and snooping around to see what crazy boobie traps the defenders had created. Trip wires, weirdo homemade mines, a duel tippmann gun set up on a granny walker......

In our push to go "mainstream" i wonder if paintball lost some of its purest charm.....just a bunch of crazy guys (and gals sometimes) out in the woords trying to impress with thier crazy tactics and inventions. But not impress media, or sponsers, just each other. For the thrill and kid like awe of it all.

I can feel for you, I should say empathize with you....wait thats pretty much the same thing.....

But for me its different. Maybe it is because I am a newcomer...only been truly active for the last 2 years.

Im get excited over the new stuff...but mainly just cause I want to see whats new.

I have a group of friends that I met just this past year that I am playing with and its been fantastic.I cant wait for spring to play more with them.

My wife and I play together and I love that its a hobby we can share.

I dont know the past of AO...but I love the people I have met here and on AO. I cant comment on how they are compared to the past, but for me, as a noob, the people here and on AO have been great....and yes that includes you Rogue :) You have been very helpful to this noob, and I look forward to all your posts.

Im not sure why it may have changed for you...but from the perspective of someone new...things look ok from here.

I do feel for you, it sux that its changed for you. But look to the bright side...now you have idiots like me to deal with

I do miss most of the people I use to play with, but I'm pretty content now. I do miss being able to play every weekend and always haveing a ton of 10-12 year olds to teach how to play. Now the only time I really get kids out playing is my youth speedball league.
