so ANS gear has a wicked sale for labor day, and im thinking about getting some non blue pants (like i used to have, and the new ones already have a hole in them so i know their days are numbered
my choices ive boiled down to are (and none of these prices are typo's
08 empirecontact SE in dessert camo - 46.95
08 proto's in grey - 39.95
09 proto's in grey - 59.95
i like the empires because they just look awesome, and im a veteran of a desert war, and have earned the right to wear DCU's, and they look cool
http://www.paintball-online.com/sites/paintball/images/big/APEM8CPDC_big.jpg
as for the protos, ive always liked DYE pants, i owned a pair of C4's that lasted through 4 years of abuse, the only reason i got/needed new ones was because they either shrank, or i grew.. but they started looking like the field was flooding, my problem with dye pants it, i cant justify the price tag, however, the protos, are all of the dye tech, with a different logo and alot less price
here are the 08's
http://warpedsportz.com/images/products/detail/08ProtoPantTechFrontGRY.jpg
and here are the 09's
http://www.store.justpaintball.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/5e06319eda06f020e43594a9c230972d/2/0/2009_Proto_Pants_Grey.jpg
what i need more than anything it breathability, and lightweight, its 100º+ about 1/3rd of the year and i grow tired of feeling like im going to die when i play in the summer, i could give a damn about knee padding, because i wear knee pads, another big item is something that will last, being as tall as i am, i usually play from one knee or both most of the time, and im pretty rough on the knees of my pants, and i dont wanna buy new pants every year
i prefer the greys because they are a neutral color, and it looks fine with any jersey, where the empires, ill probably buy one of the the DCU jerseys to keep around, because it wont look quite right with red.. blue... yellow, ya know.. the PRIMARY colors
any firsthand expirence would be awesome, things youve heard/seen would be great as well
and opinions are always welcomed :D

The PB Junkies Ive been using for over 5 years have held up well and arent too heavy. Im not sure if the company is still around though. If they are, and are the same, Id suggest picking up a pair.

dye pants all the way, they are padded up like crazy in all the right places
proto pants are cheap, way to thin
Ive only ever had dye pants, and they are all that I ever want if that says anything

Way better quality then you'll ever find in paintball pants. With this sale being as cheap as they are I'm sure all the normal people sizes will seel out quick though.
Out of those that you posted I had a pair of the Empire ones and they were pretty nice, but tore and fell apart pretty quick. I can't speak for the quality of the others.

what size? Thats what I wear
I usually buy old dye pants (when they go on sale for ~ 50 bucks New old stock)

Forget the dye's, those empire look legitimately cool. I am half tempted to buy some of those even though I am sure they dont have the piece of cardboard looking knee pad foam insert I have become accustomed to in the smokin's.
They don't have my size though so the decision is made for me.

 you calling me fat. :quickdraw:
Actually my wife could probably use a new pair. I purchased her a pair in med, and they were way too big. If yours are small pm me a price, and lets work something out.

I hear Empire makes some nice pants and they will be my next choice. If I do not like them I will go back to my Proto's. The Proto's are a well made, sturdy pant. I have really no complaints with them. I just want to try something else.

I've seen these pants by "Cyre Precision" floating around the Tacticool forums, The high end operator pants run about $180.00 and are loaded with features.

The "field" version has less features and run around $120.00. Airsoft guys are snapping these up "to look like an operator for less money".

LOL what? A good pair of real 5.11 or Blackhawk pants can be had for $50 or less, and actual quality knee pads about $30. It sounds like they are trying to look like an operator for way more money. Almost all of the operators I know wear 5.11, I've never heard of these CYRE people but thier stuff is way over priced for what it is. These tacticool people need some real operators for role models(kind of like the people who bolt an extra 50lbs of crap onto thier AR-15 for so they can look like an operator).
If you want to look like an operator try these (http://www.blackhawk.com/catalog/Pants-Trousers,76.htm) or these (http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Home/All-Products/Pants/Tactical-Pants/D/30000/P/1:100:50000:50100:50101). I won't claim to be an operator, but I wear the gear and train with them. While not from a name brand I've been beating the crap out of a pair of these (http://www.lapolicegear.com/lapolicegear-operator-lightweight-tactical-pants.html) for about a year now and absolutly love them, if they weren't perpetually out of stock I'd own several more pair(my favorite tactical pants actually).

I've heard some very good things about the Taclite pants.
65% polyester and 35% poly cotton ripstop is by most accounts the "best" blend for all around weather conditions.
Gusseted crotch and double knees are another big plus, they also have a scotch guard type coating that makes it so Zombie guts "brush right off".
I have a couple pairs of these "on order" for everyday wear.

thats what i did myself,.. and part of it was for want of something else as well, i got the XXL's in yesterday, they might actually be a hair too big, i mean nothing a belt cant fix.. so far though, they seem pretty alright to me, and they dont have that mesh liner thing that dye seems to have a hardon for
and they look cool!
havent gotten a chance to play with em yet, but from what ive seen in all the for sale threads for them on PBN, they all still look to be in excellent shape after the "i gotta have the new stuff" kids have beat the hell out of em for a year

I have a pair of the Empire contact series pants that I have been playing in this year and they seem to hold up pretty well. I haven't played as much as I would like to have but I have averaged 2-3 times a month, so they have been put to the test and have passed so far. A few big games and a couple of tournaments and they haven't really faded or come apart anywhere. They seem like a good deal with the price and the quality.

I did get my Empire pants in, they seem to be well made and fit nicely. I was a bit of an idiot and ordered a large Dye jersey...I should have gotten XL:rolleyes:

i co-ordinated with someoen else, i ordered xxl, and he ordered xl, that way we had a backup plan.. i like the pants, cant wait to get em out and use em
i usually wear a 36-38, and the xxls cover 38-44,, i looked like a subway commercial...sure i would draw em in all the way, but that didnt remove the billowy-ness of the legs

I've been playing in a pair of SP defender pants for ages
Lasting really well and wash up nice too. I don't like bulky pants with built in padding. They make me sweat and in the UK climate padding soaks up water, making them even more heavy in woodsball play. I prefer to pad up under my pants - currently using full length Empire knee/shin pads.

I own Proto 08's.
Very comfortable and breathable but the pockets are absolutely useless.
They are shallow and have no zipper or velcro to close them
Can't speak for the 09's but they look very similar
