While I'm no Obama supporter; I would hope that I would have recognized him doing something deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.
What has he done to deserve this? :wall:

Yep, just like honorary degrees it clearly doesn't take anything to win a Nobel anymore.

Nothing. You didnt miss anything.
This is like giving a trophy to last place to build self-confidence. Typical BS.

Well, he's in great company with Woodrow Wilson and Teddy Roosevelt...
I guess I should have realized that the Nobel Peace Prize was worthless once it was awarded to Al Gore. This is nothing more than a political stunt IMHO.

I need a laugh.

Agreed. It just de-legitimizes its value. It took a few generations to remind us that werent around back when it was last given, but now we will know for a few more that its just for show.

It's all about HOPE.....°°°° that...this will sound great next election. Vote for President Obama Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize... He is a Pop culture Icon just as much as Madonna and it seems more then just the half-witts of America will buy into it..
I don't exactly keep up with the actions of peace keeping and humanitarian groups, but I'm sure I could find someone somewhere that has actually taken action that has actually benefited a group of people, rather then making empty promises backed up by the word "Hope" that has been the wool over so many people eyes..
Then again, after seeing some of the past winners it seems you can simply buy yourself a NPP...Hey how about Obama donates that money to help cover some of the national debt? Or better yet why doesn't he use the prize money to cover his ridiculous cost of travel to Oslo instead of our tax dollars.

Fun fact:
Nominations for the Nobel closed on 1 February 2009. Obama was inaugurated 11 days prior to that.

Every Miss America says they will seek to stop world hunger or something like it, but they don't win the Nobel Peace Prize. The bar is now set at aspirations and not accomplishments.

I agree this is ridiculous, but it should be pointed out that the other Nobel prizes are actually awarded for worthwhile achievements in the sciences.
The Peace prize can be awarded for any reason to anyone.

Shouldn't the winner have actually ACCOMPLISHED something though?
Hope and Change are not actually accomplishments...just catchy slogans.

I'm going to win the Nobel Peace Prize for 2010...I'm not going to accomplish anything though. I'm simply going to tell everyone that hope and change have come to America. The Great Obama has done this so why can't I?
