With all the thread about .50 cal this and .50 cal that. All i can think about is.

 How sexy and small a .50 Cal pump mag would be!!!!! It would be so much fun to bring out. On those days you are playing first timers. Every time i see a .50 thread that is all i can think about. Does any one else have the same thoughts as me. Maybe we can get lucky enough and get rouge to make us a handful of them. First can it be done? or could we use the xvlave we have now and put a different bolt? different rail? different body.

I dont want this thread to turn into the typical .50 threads. There are hundreds of those threads. No bashing or predictions about staying or going. I want this thread to be. Can we make a .50 cal mag?

In theory with a new barrel, breach insert of some sort, and smaller faced bolt it would work.

I would think that the detent location would need to be moved closer to the bolt slightly. But I could be wrong as I'm not sure how much allowance there is.

New body

New barrels

New bolt/ springs

New feednecks

We might even need a whole new valve system

It would be easier to start with a new valve.

Yup, I think it would need to start with this. ^^^^^^^^^^

But like TK once said, if we redesign the valve, is it still a mag? What makes an automag an automag? The valve? The ability of parts to be cross compatable? If a new valve were redesigned, would the lvl x be redesigned? Or done away with, for something different? Maybe tippmans "new" bolt style with built in regulator and anti chop bolt, and dyes "new" anti chop bolt design, with whatever technology they're calling it. I know there is atleast one or more people working on new valve designs, whether or not they leave the design stage or ever make it to reality are other stories, but one said design is an mq style valve that utilizes the lvl x, but does away with the sear and on/off, increased air consumption and full electronic operation, would that still be a mag? To me, it better chuff!!!! Lol:D

You can make a 50 cal mag. Depending on cost, you could do it with either retrofit parts or new parts.

I had considered this possibility years ago. Glad I never pursued it much, as I never really looked hard enough at the science behind the size/weight of what we currently use to understand why.

What I do know is that making the sizes .50, .625, .75, make manufacturing the equipment cheaper. You can start from standard size bar stock on almost every part.
