Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians'.
'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'. 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'
'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, becauseChristian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'
'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'
'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or OurWay of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,
'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'
If Australia wasn't so anti-gun... I'd be on the next boat!

No, not new or entirely accurate, but it does represent a prevailing opinion in Australia. While the US is slowly becoming more and more liberal, Australia has been moving in the opposite direction.
I've been there a couple of times, it's a nice place. For the most part the people are both polite and friendly - as long as you are. I would love to live there.
Some people say "If the US goes to pot, I'm moving to Canada!" Not me, I'm moving to Australia.

Australia is also my choice for a new home should the US get too much more out of control. But this anti-gun thing has me worried.
How bad are their gun laws? Im not giving up my 1911's and AR's.

Since I travelled there almost a decade ago, Ive said if I had to leave the US its Australia Id go to.
Its too bad the original quote wasnt the accurate one. Thats what someone needs to stand up and say, and then stand behind.

That may not be exactly what he said but if you read the quotes in the link it becomes pretty clear that he is saying that you must hold to the values and laws of Australia (alone) and if you don't or cant then you should look for somewhere else to live.
Still respectable that he would even go that far.

Indeed they are. Didn't they do a snatch and burn (confiscation and destruction) in the 90's?

Trade one freedom for another?.. and the most important freedom at that.
The "Right" to protect my life transcends any "given right".
If any bureaucracy tries to remove the right to protect yourself, You are no longer free on ANY level. you are a slave.
The second amendment isn't about hunting, its about protecting ourselves and This republic from out of control Government.
According to the World Book encyclopedia, there were 25,700 Americans killed in the Revolutionary War.. These men Died for freedom, They were NOT willing to trade "One freedom versus most others".
And with every new law... new court ruling... new restriction imposed on the populous.. means these men Died in vein and The American Legacy gets more Diluted.
Shawn,
You really should go get a Firearm.
once you do, and become involved in a responcible shooting community.
you will become a better American and a more valuable citizen, rather than a defenseless sheep.

Nope, not kidding you. When in Rome, I would do as the Romans.
Ive owned a firearm. And I grew up around them.
More importantly, if this country became where it appears to be going...you wont have your guns anyhow.
Even if it doesnt, and we have had this conversation, you wont be able to protect yourself from the govt with your handgun or AK-47. They will always have bigger more advanced guns. Thats reality.
So moving to Australia would be a better choice. And since their laws dont allow guns, if I chose to live there I would follow their laws.
But that is usually what a choice is...giving up something in lieu of something else. We all have the freedom to choose, it doesnt mean we have the freedom to have everything we want. As the Australian dude said, if you dont like that...dont live in Australia.

I wonder how many fled the Colonies when the revolution began? I'm sure it was lots.
Itresting side note.
The "insurgency" in Afghanistan have been putting up a good fight from Aggression for MANY years.. no one has beat them Yet, and If This Government goes down the wrong road, my life will be added to the book of Men that fought to protect Freedom.
{which sounds good on paper... But in reality probably wont be that glorious... unless I'm in Texas, Then I'll be among Legends.}
The more I read, the more I learn about "the oath keepers"
{ http://oathkeepers.org/oath/ }
I dont think They will be knocking down my door anytime soon. Although the Jack boot local Police force may try.

True. The Afghans fought off the Soviets with bolt action Lee Enfield rifles for the most part.
Rogue, I almost respect your point of view on this, but I prefer the General John Stark approach. In a letter to his fellow citizens of New Hampshire, he wrote: "Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils."
Our Bill of rights is not negotiable. Not one single part, not ever.

p8nt: Probably no more than our own Founding Fathers and their families 'fled' England. They chose to leave too and start anew.
grEnAlEins:I am a pragmatist. The Constitution and our Bill of Rights can be changed. It doesnt necessarily take force, but the will of the people and a majority vote. Its an unfortunate reality.
The freedom Stark speaks of is relative. Im certain by his standards, none of us have lived free in over a century(or more). So its really a matter of debate on what we have all agreed to choose to give up since his days. That is really a whole discussion onto itself.
Should this country become a bastardization of what it once was, Id rather choose to live elsewhere by most of those same ideals. I wont have my children grow up without their father so that I can hold onto the idea that I need to bare a firearm. If you choose to die and have your children grow up fatherless,I almost respect your point of view but do applaud your right to do so.
