I never know what word to use...marker or gun?

What word do you use...and why?

I use the word 'marker' when talking about a firearm with the purpose to shoot paint filled projectiles for the purpose of 'marking' an opponent in sport.

I use gun to describe a firearm with the sole purpose to destroy or harm---either in defense or sport.

depends on the audience

to those that are new or unaware of the sport i use marker as it is more benign

Marker or gun, but really gun. When I get shot at closer ranges I don't feel as if I've just been "marked".

Marker for "propper" situations, gun for informal ones.

Without a doubt...Marker. As Rogue stated, this "Weapon" (which is a term I would not use outside this forum) is for marking only thus a Marker. I use guns and weapons all the time as I am in the army and those are for killing, plain and simple so those two terms come into play. Believe me when I say that words mean something. "Outlaw5"

ie...

paintball gun
cap gun
play gun
laser gun
bb gun

Maybe its a southern thing, we were kick *** as kids we got to play with real looking toy guns, and when we went to High School, we had our shotguns in the back of truck windows on racks, windows down, in the school parking lot, still warm from hunting before school on their property with the football coach...

man things were better back then

I most usually state "marker" as it is historically bound with our game. The original purpose of these devices was of course marking cattle or trees. The current purpose is for marking our opponent. The very first product made FOR our game was the Splatmaster Marking Pistol.

So right from the very beginning of its inception we have the foundation behind the whole calling it "marker."

But now it's also because every single one of us are are embassadors of the game. Despite much of us not exactly liking "PC" ****ification. But there's a lot of dumb yet crazy soccermoms out there just begging for a cause to ruin peoples fun.

I refer to anything that shoots something as a gun-

Airgun
Paintball gun
Potato gun
gun gun

etc, etc.
Marker (despite the Nelspot's purpose) sounds too PC to me.

It all depends on where I am and who's around...

For the most part, I'll refer to it as a gun.

If talking to friends at work, I'll say "marker" to keep the idiots from reporting me to HR or security.

I usually use marker. Gun tends to make me think of a firearm.

Yeah I usually use the term marker myself. Calling it a gun just doesn't seem right to me.

Marker to the general, unknowing public, as it seems to lessen the shock of "shooting" at one another... My guns are stored in the appropriate safes, with ammunition close at hand...

Just remember:

This is my rifle, this is my gun.
This is for fighting, this is for fun.
