all I know is that if you're swimming in a chlorine pool and get out....every fart after that is just rancid...rancid chlorine pool farts

Obstructive Sleep Apnea is where your air passage collapses, and doesn't allow you to get into REM sleep. The solution is a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine. It forced air up your nose, making the air passage stay open, and allows you to get into REM sleep.


When nights are cold, I lay a blanker over my machine to conserve some of the heat it produces and preheat the air being forced up my nose. Unfortunately the cat thinks this is a great place to lay, as it is warm...

If you think rancid chlorine farts are bad... Cat food farts are the worst! Especially when you can't escape them!

Man can you imagine, those guys in the space suit ripping a good ol MRE fart while capped up in that suit. I would imagine you recycle that smell for quite a while.

In the space station I wonder if ripping a good one would propel you across the room....?

I've actually thought about the "Flatulence Propulsion System" I'm not positive whether a fart in space would propel you anywhere, only because of the limited "reaction mass" (for lack of a better phrase)

There are several factors. First of all, a shower is a small, enclosed space, so the fart gas is more concentrated, and the high turbidity of the air in the shower circulates the gas through the space effectively. Secondly, the high humidity and high temperature conditions in the shower enhance a person's sense of smell and taste. The farts don't actually smell worse, it's just that we can smell them better than usual.

The fart FAQ doesn't have anything on chlorine pool farts...I'd like to know why they are so rancid...why does chlorine and your buttox make such a rancid odor?

Chlorine is used in pools to kill bacteria (duh!) The way chlorine does this is by combining with the lipids, in living cells, and chemically altering things such as ammonia. These interactions cause chloromines to be released. The rancid odor might be how the chlorine interacts with hydrogen sulfide or mercaptan. I wasn't able to turn up anything in a five minute google search, but I'm sure there is some data hiding on the web, waiting to answer the question.
