View Full Version : I need volume numbers

I know someone here knows them. As a few of you might know, I'm reworking the Mag valve design. I need to know the volume needed to properly fire a ball at 315 fps. No need to have more volume to the bolt as this would aid in efficiency.

I guess I will step into this one...
The Automag has a .55 cubic inch firing chamber @ 400-450 psi, according to what I remember. Check automags.org to confirm it.
I also remember that Tom Kaye stated that to increase efficency, reduce the chamber volume, and compensate by increasing the chamber pressure.
To the best of my knowledge, from listening to the arguments, and testing the theories, all "low pressure" does is reduce the number of barrel breaks, induced by the initial blast of air. (I think that's a runon sentence... oh well) There is one other side effect of LP... You can shoot "deeper" into a tank, and therefore, people believe that LP is more efficent. As to more efficent per shot, you will need to as someone smarter than me...

From what I recall, AGD did extensive testing on the xvalve to try to increase the shots-per-tank. The best they were able to do, was about a 100 shot increase. This was Tom Kaye and his crew, and they basically said it wasnt worth it.
Notice something different about this special emag made for the Jacksonville Warriors?

However, I am not sure if they explored different power tube configurations. The LVL10 bolt stem is smaller in diameter than the lvl 7. This is one of the key design elements which make it work. The smaller the diameter of that stem (Which is in essence a PISTON), the more force you need to exert on it to get it to over come the force of the main spring holding it back.
It appears to be low pressure. (due to the what looks to be a large air chamber in the front of the valve.)

email me (joshallis at bellsouth dot net). I have an extra valve that you can have to figure out how large the chamber is. (are you wanting a rt or classic valve)

Thanks. I'll get on that.
Didn't those Emags take something like 96 man hours to produce?
