View Full Version : X valve pressure issue

Morning Folks. I got my Christmas gift finally, my x-valve. I dropped it in last night and when I pressed the trigger it was a little spongy but would not shoot. I swapped out the on/off with my ULT on/off and add or subtracted spacer rings but that did not change. I finally swapped out the old seer for the new one and it shot with both on/off assemblies. But after a few solid shots it no longer seemed to put the trigger back. I did notice my HPA tank was at about 1100 psi when it stopped shooting.

Do I need to maintain a certain pressure in the tank? Is there some more tuning I made need to do? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks. :D

Have you tried turning up the velocity yet?
Not sure why a sear swap would change anything though.

edit: also, what is the output psi of your tank? You generally want a minimum of 800
I also found that if I get a little below 1kpsi left in the tank, it's time to refill. It can get a little finicky once you dip below 1k and eventually just stop firing altogether.

@1.1kpsi left, you should still be able to dry fire a few more times for tuning

When I assemble new markers with new XValves, I always remove the reg pin assembly and give it a good oiling. That reg pin(the grenade looking thing) needs to move freely. New o-rings are usually dry, and fit tightly.

This is why there is a 'break-in' period for Level 10s too. New o-rings have a very small lip on the ID and OD because o-rings are cast from 2 halves(kind of like a new set of bicycle tires with the lip down the center). When that lip wears off after use, you go down a carrier.

Also, Level 10s have a tendency to be sticky when new. I usually use as many of the LX shims as the valve will take until it leaks. This mitigates it from sticking on the return stroke which it has a tendency to do when new.

K I will have to get my tank refilled then to make sure that is all it is. Thanks guys as always!

I am saving this post for future reference.

That is single handedly, the best put i have heard it so far :wthumpup:

One other thought, are there any diagrams, exploded views, or instructions for the x-valve? There were none that came with mine and I cannot locate on on AGD's site.

Ok I got the x valve to work with the on/off it came with, but with the ULT on/off it is just fickle. One shim is almost perfect, 2 is a little worse, no shims forget it, anything about 2 shims doesn't work either.

Would I be better off send mag and parts to AGD for tuning?

Can you explain a little better? Is the trigger not resetting consistently or are you short-stroking a lot? (I've experienced both problems w/ the ULT on separate occasions) Each symptom has their own reasons.

You probably could send it out to someone to have it tuned, but I personally like to fix a lot of these kind of things myself just to learn more about my equipment and be able to fix again if necessary.

btw, how did you end up fixing the on/off issue? Did any of our solutions work? I'm just curious ;)

Well the x valve comes with an On/Off so I put that one back in the valve and adjusted the back end of the valve till it shot properly.

As for the ULT, when I screw the bottle in, you can hear the air fill the valve and lock the trigger, but when I pull the trigger with one shim I get a shot or two and then it would be a spongy soft trigger with no shots.

Two shims and it was worse. More than that and there was no ability to shoot at all. Although the trigger is locked in place it just remains spongy.

Hope this is more helpful, kind of hard to explain in typing lol

Are you running a aftermarket body and/or rail? If so try tightening up your thumb screw with a allen key. Go half a turn from finger tight and see what you get. I wouldn't go over a turn and a half or you'll risk breaking the screw in the body.

Yes, it's been done before.

No, stock body/rail

Your level 10 components shouldn't affect the ULT.

Try this. Using the stock on/off, use 2 shims and find a carrier and oring that fit well on the bolt stem. (I would recommend starting with a 2 and working down)

Then make sure it fires fine and air does not leak down the barrel at all.

Then swap on/offs and fire away. (using a ULT may mean you need to change your velocity setting. Change that and only that and get back to us.

I will give that a shot tonight. I do have one question then about the bolt stem. There is no room for anymore carriers, there appears to be on in the stem already and I cannot take it out.

Any thoughts?

I think I know what you mean... you only use one carrier in the powertube and you add shims (the really thin metal circles) between the carrier and powertube-tip.

A neat trick to remove the LvlX carriers and shims from the powertube is to use your fieldstrip screw. Remove the powertube tip and carefully thread the screw down the tube. Then slowly pull it out. It will have enough grab on the carrier o-ring to hold onto the carrier but yet prevent damaging it.

Some have used dental picks but they can cut the carrier o-ring.

If you just want to take out the shims, they should either fall out or just lightly tap the powertube against something hard.

What? There should be only ONE carrier in the powertube.

Components should be in this order:

Powertube tip w/oring -> two shims -> carrier -> carrier oring -> backing washer ||

Obviously when putting the stuff in, put it in reverse order. Take everything out of the power tube and put back in start with the backing washer.

I have not had a chance to really try to tweaking with it. I may go refill my tank today and try it again.

I am hoping to get my mag with the ULT to shoot like this:

As it stands, with the x valve with no ULT it is just slighter faster than the stock valve. I will post what happens after I try what you guys have suggested.

Ok so I am still having ZERO luck with this ULT. No matter what I seem to try it still shoots like a wet fart.......

I hate to send this to AGD for a month but I see little choice. I even tried doing the tricks for RF from Z-man's site to see if it would just shoot but it didn't.

LOL Hey Zak can I just send you my marker since you seem to have a magic touch with these things! j/k
