View Full Version : Does anyone really care about the box a marker comes in?

How many keep the box? Use the box?

How many would rather have the company spend their money on making a better marker, or give us a better price and we will take the marker in a plain white box?

Ok, but would it matter if you sold the marker in its original WHITE box, or its fancy printed box?

It doesn't really matter, but it's a nice touch from the company. I was very impressed with the gun case the mini came in plus all the keys, extra set of all the screws, and lube. If you have a gun bag for your guns then it doesn't really matter or if you wrap your guns in towels and throw em' in the bag...but all in all it's a nice touch from the company if you're spending little bux or big bux

Really doesnt matter i dont guess. I too was impressed with the mini box. I also like the casket box from Quest. I think they are nice and memorable touches, that would possibly make me buy again. And to your point these companies put them in the nice boxes and are priced with compnaies with so so boxes,

To be honest i guess i like a fancy box

I kept my Xmag box, but just for the reason of a potential future sell. Which will never happen.

A case like the Mini is nice, it gives a good way to store the marker. A box I don't care about.

I like how MacDev packaged the 06 Cyborg. It came in a nice foam carrying case. Very handy if you ever have to ship it or sell it. Also helps keep the marker looking nice and free of blemishes.

But truth be told if it came in a plain white or brown box I would still buy the 'Borg. As long as the manufacturer makes a good product I could case less about the packaging.

I think that if a company is spending money on a fancy box they should make it one we could actually use. Sorta like the ones that comes with the invert mini's.

Personally, I use a big nxe gearbag so a small box like the mini's to protect my marker from any scratches would definitely be used, otherwise ill probably get rid of it to save space in my room.

I think fancy case's are a nice touch but they definitely do not make or break a purchase for me.

I use to keep all the original packaging from all of my markers. one day I realized they just take up space in my closet. I trashed them all, and am glad I have extra room. Just get the marker to me safely thats all I want.

I would rather have a plain white box and a marker that is 10$ cheaper....they just get trashed or thrown under a bed anyway....

I keep the box if it is printed by the company. (I have my original AGD RT PRO box somewhere)
I keep the cases like the cyborg and mini.

A printed box or case is a small detail that completes a purchase.

However, I wouldn't keep the cardboard shipping vessel the package arrived in.

i agree, even though i keep any boxes for storage and transport. what the box looks like doesnt affect how the gun shoots.

So far I have kept all the boxes my paintball markers have come in. I use them for storing the misc. pieces and parts for that particular marker. It makes it easier for me to find the parts when I'm looking for them. But as of now I have boxes with parts in them and no more marker to go with it. As far as the fancy packaging, you can keep it, as long as i can tell by looking at the box what came in it, thats all I would need.

I usually keep my boxes in the event I sell them, but I agree with bryceeden... the mini case is awesome and I wish other more expensive markers came in such a case.

Most of my boxes were reused to send markers I've sold to other's. However most of them were CCM boxes which are just like what your saying...plain, white boxes. Great packing thou, diecut foam. Gotta love CCM.

I still have all my boxes, just can't get myself to get rid of them.

One is the box my dad got his classic mag in back in like 93. That was my first mag.

My second favorite boxes were from CCM and AKA. IF I can remeber correctly they were white and packaged the contents like they were shipping me precious art. I always thought AGD's boxes held the mags in an akward fasion.

You can't have a complete package without a box.

Just about everything has packaging. It's necessary to move product. Manufactering is cheaper now than ever. Printing on packages is not that much extra. yes extra but not that much. It says a lot about a company to have attention to detail. If you give out white boxes whiles others give out stripe boxes you lose a bit of flash.

Think about camo, you don't want to blend in. you want to stand out. the more you stand out, the more you get noticed.

The only "new" gun I ever bought that didn't come in a nice box was a DYE ultra light mini cocker. It came in a brown box with foam padding. This was also the most expensive "new" marker I ever purchased from a large company and turned out to be troublesome.

You need:
a Good product (paint pusher)
good package (how it is delivered to your paws)
good instruction (how it is used and maintained)

even if the non-essentials are thrown away it still is part of the package that can make or break.

I agree...To me quality packaging shows that extra level of effort that makes me think the company really cares about the product and the customer. It makes the design, and the purchase experience complete.

Mac vs. PC.

Look at the boxes that Apple vs. Dell products are shipped in for an example.

Just my 2 cents.

I am not a person that really cares about the box.
I have done my research and know what I am buying and the box is just a package.

If you are in a place where something needs to be eye catching, have it setting on the package.

I would rather more money be put into R&D than packaging, or lower the price of the part.

The last thing that I purchased that had a cool package was my Springfield Armory XD40 tactical. Came with 2 magazines, magazine holster, pistol holster and magazine loader, and gun lock.
I loaded my 2 magazines
Got my BlackHawK Serpa holster put my new xd40 in it. and put it on my belt.
The Cool plastic case is in the garage somewhere...

I don't think I have ever bought a brand new marker.. I didn't know they came in boxes....:happydance:

The box doesn't do anything for me, the only box that ever surprised me was the box for the invert mini, which shortly got thrown inside the garage. The mini stays in the marker compartment of my gear bag. :happydance:

A nice box does make a great impression. How much less would the gun go for if they went with a plain white box? $10-$20? I'd say it would be best to do the fancy box at the start of the markers life and switch to a plain white box later on. That should keep everyone happy since most of the penny-pinchers wait till the price drops anyway.

A fancy box is for "shelf candy", not for a (basically) shipped only company like AGD. Resale on paintball guns is pretty dismal, so unless one is a hard core collector...adding a pretty box will not be the decider.

All my boxes are carefully filed away in the dirt room at the local landfill.

Just get a brown box with a big red TOP SECRET stamped on the front. They'll think it's your clever marketing, you'll know it's cuz you want to save money.

And as far as the box "not mattering" I think we should ask Tom what he thinks about just a plain box. :evillaugh:

So, some like the box others dont. I had figured it would be more to one side or the other.

Keep the opinions coming.

Not at all, actually the most effective boxes are the the ones you fold inside out and send your markers in, because it makes it really easy for me to ship other items away in.

Rogue,

i am biased as i run an advertising and design company, but i think packaging makes a difference... does it make THE difference when choosing equipment? no. But it is reassuring/encouraging when a company cares enough about a product to package/present it well. I don't view nice packaging as essential, but it is a nice touch.

It may just be the consumer in me, but in the old days paintball gear was stacked or hung on a wall, now most gear is nicely packaged and presented. stores (mostly) look like stores, not yard sales.

Packaging adds legitimacy for better or worse. What if you bought a movie at best buy and they just gave you a disc in a paper sleeve? Some won't care, some will.

I just bought a new ULE Custom about 5 months ago, back in July direct from AGD, and it came in a simple white box. At first, I was a little disappointed, because I thought I would get something that had the cool Logo on it, but then I opened it, and all disappointment (Just a tiny bit) went out the window and has been gone ever since. I was so pleased with the marker, it could have shown up in anything, and I would have been happy. So I guess if you are selling a quality product, packaging should matter, since people will buy it for what is inside. Gee, this sounds like LOVE!! It's what's inside that counts, right??? LOL, I guess I am in love with my paintball marker. Yea, that's right!!!

i think its more appealing to people to see that what they are buying is as close to factory as possible (even if they know its used), so if i have a choice to buy one of two products and one is coming in its original package........ i would buy the original package.
