Which do you choose? Would you prefer to play 1-2 good games a year that you know will be fun, or would you prefer to take your chances on the local field?

Would you travel to go to these events? If so, how far would you travel? And what would be your budget for such an event if you knew it would be a good time had by all?

Yes, Im referring to an event like Tunaball:smarty:

well..

As a field manager ide like to see the regulars return for play like the used to almost every weekend. Im not sure if that will ever happen again like it used to.

I usualy only play 2-3 times a year at local big games or special events to support the local fields when i can.

If i had to choose it would be the couple large events that have ALOT going on instead of the regular open play that can get old quickly

I could not give up playing on a regular basis. I mean if you are only going to play one or two times a year what's the point?

I have to play at least once a month....I haven't played in almost four and its about to make me crazy.

So I would have to say take my chances at the local, IF it were down to that. I really enjoy going to Blanding a few times a year......

Ideally twice a month at the least, with between two to four larger games/scenarios.

Well, i've never actually been to a "big" event, although hopefully i'm going to d-day this year.

I like to play several times a month and seeing as i already have a home field i'll have to say playing regularly at a local field is currently preferable for me. but seeing as i'm young i have lots of pent up energy, unlike some of you old farts

This is a tough call as I like to frequent the local fields with co-workers and friends. An event would be great. Travel depends on the over all cost and if there are local accomodations and length of the event. If I can drive to it then it wouldn't be so bad...

Well, for me, going to the local field every weekend of every month (i missed 3 weekends the entire season April-end of November) is part of the reaosn i LOVE to play. Lucky for me, my local field (Sudden Impact at funks Grove Illinois, home of spring pump event!!! shameless plug..lol) is a wonderful field. The owner is one of the nicest guys you could meet, the refs are pretty damn good and friendly, and the other regulars are great too. I wouldnt give up my local trips to the field for anythings. Is part the fun of playing every weekend, but really, its the people that make it worth it. Hell even if i am not planning on playing i usually go down just to help ref, or watch, or just hang out.

Last year i DID make it to the Spring Pump Event, and a 24hr Dollack Scenario game at CPX. That satisfied my needs for big events. This year i am thinking about OK D-Day just for the spectacle. I would love to do a Tunaball, but NJ is a pretty big haul from Illinois.

Honestly, playing every weekend is one of the things i really look forward too. Its only been 3 weeks and already im dying to play some more. I need to get to a indoor field soon, or my girlfriend is going to kill me for practicing my snap shots from behind the couch.

I try to play 2-4 big scenarios each year, and at least once a month. More is definately better, in the particular case!

Given the choices, though... I'd say go to the local field.

If the 1-2 large events was modified to 4-6... I'd be in that crowd.

The reason I play things like Tunaball, Pump It Up, MCB days, AO Meet and Greets is that I KNOW I will have fun. There are very few *******s at these type of events. As a friend pointed out, long ago... If your not enjoying your hobby... Why do it?

I used to play the local field but it got to the point that no one hardly showed up, which got boring. Now I do the scenario thing during the summer. I usually go to about one scenario a month from March to October. Some times twice a month if the funds are availble.

I go local about once a month now, I have a few local fields to choose from here that are for the most part pretty good to excellent. My budget for that is about $50.00 a pop. I do 1 or 2 Big/Game Scenarios a year, and will travel as far as I can drive on the first gameday, budget for those is about $150.00, and I expect camping will be available.

1-2 times a year. Everything is well over 100 miles from me, the local paintball scene has died.
I have dropped off the face of the earth for the past 3plus years.

I still have the urge and thrill to play but now it is more fun related, more of pump play.

I am planning on

1) Spring Pump Event -- Probably going to cost 400-500 bucks for the weekend

2) Tunaball II -- Probably closer to a $1000 - 1300 depending on travel costs etc.

I also ref for paint, and play at my local field whenever I can.

I REALLY enjoy the "big" games...and try to make as many as I can.
That said...I also just like to go out for a bit of fun and do some open play.

I think I need both. I wouldn't want to give one up.Yeah its a cop out of an answer...but its the truth.

I like a mix of both. I've always gone to local BIG GAMES over just open play. But depending on the year/cash flow I will go as much as I can to small open play. The only Super large game I've been to was Shatnerball in Joliet, IL. Following up second, Splat Tag in Hudson, Wi, then Special Forces in Buffalo, MN

well..

As a field manager ide like to see the regulars return for play like the used to almost every weekend. Im not sure if that will ever happen again like it used to.
Things run in cycles. I'm sure it won't be long before it picks back up again.
Do you offer season passes? that may help.

Hey:

Honestly, for me-I'd rather play once or twice and KNOW I'll have fun then play twice a month and have fun only once or twice a year too.

Big games with familiar faces and friends is always better, makes playing a little more fun. On a typical, one of these events I expect to pay anywhere up to 200 USD for entree, up to another 200 in paint (2 cases for a multiday event), all event air up to another 25, then transportation to wherever I'm going. I'm usually willing to spend a large chunk on that anywhere from 500-1000 if need be, but no more then that.

I was chatting with a buddy today and I think this is the direction we are going. Hit a few big games and other events a year and thats it. Smiles/dollar.

As long as i get to play i don't care if it's a "big" game or not. Being able to pick up and go on any weekend i choose, if there happens to be a big scenario game great, if not back to the local field. Fun is always guaranteed.

first off the local field sucks , too expensive , ref's when they can be found stink , nobody at the chrono station , it was just the owner thinking of making money
A group of us (10 to 20) play outlaw every sunday , a good group of honest players we police ourselve's better than ref's & we chrono our markers to below 280 , about the only think that stops us is the massive downpour of rain & if you stick it out , the sun usually comes back out
I try to play 1 scenario every 3 months depending on my wallet's size , at this point i've played all over florida , going to try to expand to Ga & Al this year ( Tuna has ran through me head just not sure about the wallet )

So to answer the question ; I do both

It seems the biggest factor here is how good your local field is. Unfourtunately, the quality of local fields vary SO much, that while some people would hit up a big game because they KNOW it will be fun, i would rather hit up my local field for the same reason.

This thread really makes me happy to have such a great local field to go to. Sometimes i forget how fortunate i am to have a good place to go every weekend, as it seems most people do not.
