Yea.... these things are wicked... I would love to see them in person as I'm sure they're a real blast to watch as they hack eachother to death.... lol....

Having built everything from an ant (1 lb) to a hobbyweight (30 lb) I will say it is a lot of fun to both compete and to watch. There is still alot of "old school racing" feel to the events. People regularly loan out parts, lend a hand fixing, or just cheer on other competitors, even if you have to face them next round!
The robot Chimera, at the last competition, broke its weapon blade in a fight with Uki (built/driven by one of my teammates). Our team loaned him our spare titanium weapon blade so he could continue to compete! Unfortunately for him, his weapon motor wasn't up to swinging our considerably larger blade, and blew up fairly quickly!
I kinda wish I hadn't left playing with robots... Paintball sorta replaced it in my time/financial budget. Now that I have a shop again, I might start building robots again.

That's awesome. I was trying to get a buddy of mine to start a team with me a few years ago, couldn't get him to bite though.

This stuff is sweet. I wish it was still on tv.

Papa Smurf... you and me both. Unfortunately a lot of stupidity killed it for Battle Bots. Poor ratings killed it for Robotica, and I'm not sure what happened to Robot Wars. The UKers have this pension for just stopping in the middle of a shows run and ending it.
For all of you that live in Florida... Battle Beach (http://www.battlebeach.com/) used to be held near you. I'm not sure if the event still exists.
For those interested... the RFL (http://botleague.net/) and the NorthEast Robotics Club (NERC) (http://www.nerc.us/) are the two big organizers. Check them out! They have events here and there.

Here are a few more links
Litterbox (http://robot-club.com/rc/rcg/litterbox.html) with a scary picture of me!
Cat Scratch (http://robot-club.com/rc/rcg/catscratch.html) with a picture of my teammate Jim. This was the very first bot I built. Overpowered weapon, underpowered drive...
The Robot Club And Grill (http://robot-club.com/rc/rankings.html) now defunct :(
If people are interested, I have some chassis that I could part with for not a lot... They are good starting places... Mostly in the 1 and 3 pound classes
