Has anyone had the chance to shoot a Clone? What are your feelings on it and overall conclusion? I for some reason have the urge to get one because I hear so many good things about them, and they retain their value too.

Not many markers can say that these days.

I had a clone, stay away. When it shot it was decent, but still not up to DM caliber. IMO even the dm3 shoots better. They also do not retain their value AT ALL. You can't get rid of one for more than 800-850 right now. I lost like $200 on mine and I only had it for 3 weeks.

They sell for 1200 new and sell for 850 used, compaired to egos and geos thats still high. Buy an ego for 1000 and sell for 550 at best if it has everything.

I refuse to buy a DM, NT, Luxe, Creed, or Victory.

I love my geo and plan on keeping it but I hear that macdevs are really smooth, light, and accurate.

Other Mac-devs maybe. I've owned every single gun you've written about in this thread, the Clone doesn't stand up to any of them. Just hang on to your Geo, they are some of the best shooting guns for the money.

That right there just makes me forget about the whole thing, cause I completely agree.

Yup, I sold my NT because a Geo with GST shoots better than it any day of the week. The only thing quieter is a well tuned Luxe, and its not by much. Also the Geo is lighter than a Luxe and has better ergonomics. Really amazing design by Planet Eclipse, hopefully the Geo2 is a real upgrade (even though I dont know how you would make it any better).

Preamble that most of you know.

1- I have been tinkering and perfecting my Toxic Matrix for 3 years now and I feel I can say with confidence that I know how to get the most out of the Matrix spool design.

2- I bought a Droid back in of February of this year and have put about 15 cases through it so I think I can compare the "feel" of a Droid vs a Matrix.

3- I got a chance to shoot a brand new not-even-broken-in Clone at D-Day.

I am inclined to agree with h0ckeyman on the DM3 vs Droid/Clone shooting "better" (I assume that you mean better = smoother). The reason that the Matrix shoots smoother than the Droid or Clone in my opinion is because the Matrix weighs 2.5x as much as the MacDev guns. It's a freaking brick and all that extra weight makes the really low kick of the Matrix feel like even less kick. Think about it.

Say you had to identical Matrix side by side that fired with the same kick each shot. One weighed 3lbs and the other weighed 1lb, which would "feel" like it had less kick? You could make it an extreme example and say what if one matrix weighed 100lbs. It would be so heavy that you would not even feel that it had shot even though there was just as much force applied as the 1lb gun.

In a nutshell that is how I would describe my Droid/Clone vs Matrix. My Toxic "feels" like it has less kick than my Droid, but not by much. Not by much, consider that. What's more my Droid is MUCH lighter (not Ego light but still), does not appear to have FSDO and appears to have decent efficiency (16-1800 shots off a 68/45 is my estimate till I do a real test).

At D-Day I ran into a guy from PBN who had a brand new Clone that I got a to shoot for a bit. It felt very much like my Droid. Could have been lighter than my Droid but it was so close that I could not tell. The Clone felt a hair crisper than my Droid but that was probably because his did not even have a case through it whereas mine had over 20 (counting the previous owner).

Bottom line is that the Droid and Clone feel about the same and are a lighter version of the Matrix. Consider also:

2010 Prices:

Clone ~$800
Droid ~$400
Matrix ~$200

Notice how the prices generally double as you move to the newer stuff? I would not say the same of the performance. The Matrix is by far the best for your dollar but the Droid is getting pretty close IMO. It is a lot lighter and a lot less complex.

Good post Z-man, I guess you have a good point. Also I'll be the first to admit that I am super biased to my DM3's. I doubt anything will ever come close to the feeling of them(for me at least).
