View Full Version : Realistically, how much money would you like to spend for a day of play?

RogueFactor

If you had the ability to choose an arbitrary cost amount for a day of play, what would it be? Please, only realistic amounts.

This cost would be all-inclusive: It would include paint, air, and field fee. Do not factor in the cost of food or gas to get there.

If I could get a full day of play with enough paint, air and field pass for $100 I would go twice a month to a field.

most scenarios I attend I end up spending 80 to 100$ a day depending on paint usage
How much would I like to spend ? thats hard to answer ; I'm cheap thats why I play outlaw & the local pay field sucks ,just a bunch of new guys & overshooters ( the 2 times i've been there )
I play outlaw every Sunday & probley only spend 20 to 30$ that for air & paint
sorry i can't give a correct answer

IF I use an entire case of paint in a day of play, air and field fee is $80 with a good grade of paint. I can cut the costs a bit with lesser practice grade paint, or by limiting my paint usage. Normally I use a half case or less in rec ball, and come out at or around $50. I feel its very reasonable, and was playing almost every weekend so long as the wife wasn't mad with me for it.....lol

I play stock class......so like $10:D

I just played a scenario for $100, and if I could do that every game I would be happier than ATach in a field of Mags.....oh wait....

If you had the ability to choose an arbitrary cost amount for a day of play, what would it be?

If I play ramping, Id require 175.00 to 200.00 dollars
If I play Mech, Id require 100.00 to 125.00 dollars
If I play Pump, Id require 65.00 to 75.00 dollars

Cost has never been an issue with me.

Well all day air or co2 and field fee's...I'd pay $20. For paint I'd pay $60-70 per case if it's decent paint. My problem is I have to drive two hours to get to anyplace that offers anything like this.

If I could get in a good day of play for around $50 / day, I would play more. However, like many, it isn't the cost so much as there are few places to play. I find myself traveling all over the state in order to play, and that is what makes it expensive.

For me, it really depends on what type of gameplay. For a good scenario weekend I don't mind spending $200. I'm lucky to have a decent number of friends locally (within an hour drive) that have land and will play outlaw at the drop of a hat. Those weekends usually run $30 at most, and really help with the lull in between bigger events.

$60-$80 bucks tops for Case of paint, All Day Air, and Registration.

I pay 60-100 for an outing, depending on where it is. It really depends on the field. Some fields I would pay more to play at than others. For a NICE field I'd pay $70-100 for a day of play. For others $50-70 is ok, and there are some fields I would not pay to play at. I usually average about $70-80 for a day. I am happy to pay it for a nice field.

Thanks everyone for the insightful answers.

Here are some prices Ive found are pretty consistent of the fields Ive played at:

Field Fee: $10-$20
All Day Air: $10
Case of Paint(BYOP): $35-$55

Shooting only 1 case of paint, my minimum price for playing is going to be $55, with a top-end of $85.

Are these prices pretty consistent with those around the country?

i'd say they are, minus a few places that like to charge $70-90 for paint and it's field paint only

most of the places are here in south jersey are decently priced with paint and entry, or BYOP with a $10-15 charge

That is about right for most fields that I have seen. Some fields do a BYOP Fee too though. $15-25 to BYOP. Seemed ridiculous until I worked at a field.

70-80 would be good. I figure i buy a case a paint for 40 a case now, plus all day air 10, and registration 20. I would play way more this way.

Realistically if I was playing semi I'd be looking at about 80-90 dollars for the day. Entry 25, air 10, Paint 35-50.
If it was ramping it'd be more but I find that I don't need to ramp.

Since obtaining my ss25 however, I find it strange going over 1000 rds in a day.
so if I go pump (ussually 1st half of the day), 25 entry, 10 air, 20-25 2 bags of paint. Even then I use the 2nd bag for one of my semi's. Whatever I save I ussually end up going with the boys for a late lunch at red robin.:happydance:

i used to go threw 2 cases a day, but that was maniacal, im down to a case or less, switching between pumps and semi's and no ramping, if i got paint tp burn maybe ill switch to nxl for a game and just throw lanes out to kill whatever paint i have from 6-8 months ago, lol:rofl2:

about 80-100

20 for field fee and all day air
80 for 1-1.5 cases of paint.

the 2 main fields I play at in Illinois are...

$18 entry and all day air + $90 for field only paint
$15 entry and all day air + BYOP

so for me....$100 is on the high end...but acceptable.

I am pretty comfortable in the $50 range.

I am uber cheap so if I can sneak in my scuba I will. Saves a few bucks on air.

I have never shot more then a case in 1 day. I just started playing pump so lately I have been using 1 case per every 2 outings. This has been great!

But if I can't sneak in the scuba and I must use field paint then I will pay $50-60 happily and (female dog) and moan for a few days if it gets into the $80 range.

bryceeden
11-13-2007, 02:17 PM
Well, I like $10-20 in entry and air and $40-$60 per case of paint. Truthfully at my field my average day would be about $30 thats air and 1000rds of Origon Signiture(I love that stuff). I only charge field fees for events so for an average day thats free. Now for one of my tourneys my average would be about $140, $20 for entry and all day air, and two cases of Chronic Pro at $60 a piece.

Well, if i play stock i usuall pay for a bag (10-15), field fee (3 or 10 depending on which field i go to), and i buy a 15 dollar pack of 12grams on occasion.

If i play semi i typically spend either 50, or 70.

My realistic ideal is to pay 50 or less for a day of play, which i typically do. so i'm set.

Im basically seeing a range of $30-$50 all inclusive.

For anything besides pump play, is this realistic? A decent case of paint alone is $40+.

And if the most that players want to pay is $30-$50...can fields survive on this? I imaing Joe noob rec player spends more than that on a rec day, once you include the cost of rental gear.

just went over some number,

the total current average for a player to come out is around $44 for our field

that is averaged out between OP and private groups.

OP average is generaly alot lower around $27(cheap bastards) and private groups are closer to $50 a person.

keep in mind the OP average cost does not include any paint, gotta figure they are spending $40-60 on paint elsewhere

DevilMan
12-24-2007, 11:48 AM
I think 75 is a good number for me... that's factoring in field paint at 50 and 25 for field fee, air, etc....

I think the field fee should include air. I mean yes I know they have to pay for the compressor to fill the tanks, but the air is free to compress. Now you say well folks that shoot lots will use more air... Tis true... but that means they will also buy more paint.... Now you say well if it's NOT FPO... then they can buy their paint elsewhere and bring it in to shoot so we make no money from the paint... Well you do when they run out and have to buy some from you and you do when the folks that are playing there with them buy from you, and you do when the more people that show up and play spend more money with you.

Honestly... I wish the paint was cheaper all the way around... 10 bucks a bag... 10 bucks = 500 rounds.... I wish field would do at thing of 40 bucks a case, or 15 bucks a bag.... Or something similar. Instead of always having to buy a case.... Well when it's FPO anyway. If it's BYOP areas then I can understand them selling by the case only.

So for me the $75 range is where I'd like to land... that leaves money for the gas to get there and some stuff to eat/drink there and back for around 100 bones.... 100 bones for a day of shootin people is worth it....

Keep in mind guys, the insurance that has to be paid, the ref fees to be paid, the upkeep of the field and stuff like that.

It's one of those things... do you do low price ~> high turnout, or high cost ~> low turnout....

There has to be a meeting in the middle. Alot of folks come out there thinking... alright it's just a field with a bunch of crap in it... well that crap may not have cost the field anything to get... but they got it.. and that crap didn't transport itself there by itself. And those chrono's cost money too, and so did the compressor. So if you were to "rent" all those parts in a day what would be FAIR for you to pay the people that you rent it from????

Factor that into your numbers and you'll see why when they have FPO then they paint may be a tad more and the field fee a bit lower. They try to average it out so it looks even.

I think the field fee should include air. I mean yes I know they have to pay for the compressor to fill the tanks, but the air is free to compress.

The compresor itself isnt free(a decent field compressor can run $5-$10K). The gas or electricity to compress the air wasnt free. And cost of maintenance/repair of the compressor isnt free.

Which part was free?:smarty:

The part I listed.... Up there ^^^^^ Where it says.... "the air is free to compress"

:nana:

I think we should get a refund since as we play and discharge the air back into the environment it gives them air to compress again... HEY!!! THEY SHOULD BE PAYING US TO PLAY!!!!! :D I know RF.. that the compressors cost lots... :D That's why I said "I know they have to pay for the compressor" but the AIR is free... for now...

On that note, I also don't mind that they charge some places for air at $1 per 1K fill. As the place I go to they get scubas and bring them out to the field and fill off of them. And CO2 isn't free by any means... BUT I know for a fact that it costs much less to get a CO2 bottle filled than what the field charges.... But everything out there that the field provides can NOT simply pay for itself. It HAS to pay for itself and MAKE a little bit of money as well. Breaking even isn't gonna fly.

shoot, if i were to play semi the whole day, i would normally spend $70 a day!! and that doesnt even include food  I buy my paint online (Actionvillage), so that is already $40 in the whole. Than, when i get to my field (Norcal Paintball Park; Petaluma, CA) it's $20 admission and $10 all day air. so yea, $70 a day :budo:

but when i use my little mag pistol, it's around $40 a day; $30 for admission and air, then $10 for paint since i use less than a bag. cant wait for my pump to get here...

Whenever we play, we each take a tank of our own and a few extras to get filled. We generally do 500-1000 rounds a person so it depends on how many people actually go. I don't shoot much at all so I'm fine with a bag of 500 to myself but I think I'm going to have to start buying a case for myself, everyone ends up dipping into my share.

Keep in mind, we just play in some random woods. Lots of other people play there as well and sometimes we play against some randoms. No tourney players here though so its pretty much always a slow day.

I usually end up payin like $40 for a day of play, but its the stuff that come with the day of play that brings the cost up.

I used to get Xbox Bronze for 40 a case at my local store, and played at a field an hour south of me all day for 10 bucks (BYOP all day everyday), including all day air, i.e. $5 admission, $5 air. So thats 50 bucks for a whole day of play, if not more because I dont use a whole case each day, I usually use 750 rounds, consider each 250 bag = 10 dollars if I buy the case at 40 dollars at my store. So thats a 40 dollar day of play...

And I think those are the best prices ive seen for competitive play.

20 green fees
5 all day air
Feild paint should be from 45 to 60

I am BYOP, I always shoot X-Ball Silver and I always get it for 50 a case.

I spend 78 dollars to go ballin. I like to buy a hotdog & water from the place. I will going forward be buying more Rec/White box paint since my Daughter is going more. That puts me at $50 fee's plus paint cost and lunch....money well spent to keep her out of the mall. I call the whole adventure $100 every other weekend.

If I have to pay more then $5 for air I get butt hurt. I never really go over a case of paint and some times come home with a unopened bag.

Green fee's over $25 would have to get me a blo.....Really nice field.
Over all with out paint the field will get $25-30 from me daily. If they sell a good field paint I might buy a case but I like to get my stuff from one of the 3 PB shops (sinister, Adreniline Zone, Preditor) with-in 20min drive from my house.

When I used to run the UMass field, we charged $5 field fee, $2 for the biggest CO2 tank you could fill, and $10/bag of paint. Under $20/day if you shoot a bag/day, still $30/day if you shoot half a case. Just some recball in the woods, but a great group of people and a day of play at a field for cheap. Mostly hopperball, so not much paint per game. I only ever shot a bag/day because a hopper usually lasted me at least two games. I'd have to say that's just about ideal for me.

If I'm playing outlaw and semi, I can get by on about $25 tops. If I mix in playing with one of my pumps, the price goes down further. I am lucky to live in area with a bunch of fields, some of which are byop plus a $10 to $15 field fee. Even if I play all day, I hardly ever use more than a half case of paint. Even at the byop fields I always take my scuba bottles, so I never have to stand in line to get my bottles filled. Every so often I'll go to a field paint only field. On those days, I'll pay $50 -$75 for field fees, air, and paint. What can I say, I'm cheap.

I play mostly renegade ball , so there isnt a field fee. Air is $4 for a scuba fill at the most. Its usually free though . I rarely shoot more than a bag of paint , but usually take at least a half case so $20 for that. So I can play all day pretty cheap. So maybe $25 or $30. Usually cheaper.

Yep. To go home on a weekend it costs me at least $140 just to drive home and back (my school is ~300mi away). That cost makes playing when at home for the weekend somewhat difficult. Once I am home for the summer playing will be rough because of my job. The outlook for this year does not look good...

I play outlaw every Sunday & probley only spend 20 to 30$ that for air & paint

I do the same thing, and fortunately, about 50% of the people that play with me are cops, so it's no big deal. But costing only abour $30 every other week for me is great. If I went to the field, I would spend about $75-80. If that was the case, I would be limited to once a month maybe. It's an expensive sport. Ideally, I would like to go to a field and spend $50 for the whole day. That would be worth it to me.

I'd like to pay around $50-$75 a day but have been paying around $100.

$35 a case for 2 cases = $70
Field and Air $30

That's a 100 bucks right there. If I were to factor food and gas, depending on how far I drive, it ends up being $120.

No wonder I only play every month or so.

Ryknow

Im usually about 60 bucks for a day of play. Thats 20 for air and 40 for paint. What I usually do is the first of the month buy an entire case of paint, but not shoot the entire thing. The for the next few weekends I can get away with getting either a single bag of 500 or a half a case... so it gets down to about 25 for my cheap days. But then again, those are the days something goes fubar on me and I have to fork out like 25 bucks for a new halo shell or something...

04-02-2008, 12:34 PM
Well before I moved I would drive about and hour and fifteen minutes which would cost me like 10-20 dollars in gas split at least two if not three ways. Then paint was $35 a case and field/air fee was $5 so we are looking at 50 dollars for a day of play...

So I would say $50.00 a day is pretty good, especially when most places that only gets you a case of paint.

There is a reason I dont get out much anymore for paintball, and whether I want to face the facts or not.

Its too damn expensive for me to afford these days.

To go and spend $40 - $50 on anything all at once is a rarity for me in any aspect of life right now.

And lets face it, a bag of 250 balls filled with paint and compressed air is not hitting the top of the priority list.
