blah blah talk all the trash you want, "knee pads are for wieners" ive played with them on for as long as i can remember, and i wouldnt have it any other way ;) now my usual staple of dyes has finally lost me, im tired of loosing skin on my knees every time i slide from the pads slipping
so far ive narrowed it down to either the 09 NXE flex, or the 2011 empire 11 grind knee pads
they both have velcro on the top and bottom, the nxe's are more open on the back, seems more like two velcro loops with padding connecting them, seems like they might have a tendency to shift
the empires seems alot more like they dyes im used to, with more absorbent material
if anyone has used either, id appreciate any info you might be able to share

Have you tried a pair of tourny pants with decent padded knees? I wore knee pads for years too before I picked up a pair of animal paintball pants. After trying out pants with good knee padding I'd never go back to separate pads.
I feel like pants with built in knee pads restrict your movement far less and are generally just as effective at keeping your knees from getting torn up (and in many pants cases your calves too).

actually, i have been using tourney pants since 04/05, dye, empire and JT, i do more than play on turfed speed ball fields, and ive found large quantites of rocks, start to hurt after awhile when your on them for extended periods

When I was looking for knee pads I cam across the empire ground pounders (IRC) that are the compression shorts and knee pads in one package. 2 of my team mates have em and love em. I personally went to Sport Chalet and got some volleyball knee pads and have worked well for me the past 2 years. Also look at Valken knee/shin combo.

ive heard about vollyball, all purpose, and wrestling kneepads being re-purposed for under paintball pants,, im just not sure i can do it.. its probably all in my head too
as for the pads that have the built in shin guards, its a bit overkill for my tastes, i have and DO play in temperatures over 100º, shin is more protection that i want (though the piece of my shin thats missing thanks to a slip i took at castle conqwest a few years ago begs to differ)
and sand, when its gets REALLY hot, i have been known to ditch the slide shorts in the name of ventilation, having them built in, might make things difficult

nxe are by far the best pads I've ever used. I've used many years of empire, dye, you name it. NXE have been the best.

Someone had to be first! HAHA
But in all seriousness, I like my APX pants. I have yet to find any pants that have near that much padding in them and they even out do some added purpose made knee pads I think. Plus, the backs of the legs are all mesh witch it sounds like would help you out where you're located.

Will look up the APX pants. As far as other pants with built in knee pads, what other ones do you guys recommend? I can't wear actual knee pads due to my bad knee and having to wear a brace sometimes so built in pads are a must for me.
I've been using a pair of the Empire Ground Pounder Pro Slide Pads SE for the past two or three years and I really like them:

They are really, really good. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a good set of knee pads and, even better, they protect your most precous goods as well LOL
Good thing is that I can play with them and a pair of shorts in the summer or with a good pants in the winter. You can't go wrong with these.

LoL
But seriously
I swear by knee pads
I use them at work when kneeling and religiously when balling
If you do not protect your knees now
You will be suffering when you are older
To the point that some thing as simple as walking will hurt
The NXE ones are what I'm using.
Believe it or not, a decent pair of rollerblade kneepads is also a really good option. They're usually hard and won't bounce paint, but they're cheap, comfy, cool, and tough.
