I just picked this book up last week and I really flew threw it. Its the first book of a high fantasy saga, kinda similar but not as deep at GRRM's 'A Song if ice and Fire'. Anyone else pick this one up? What did you think?
Its kind of GRRMish in its political intrigue and in that it's very well written. Some good fights and I like how Ruckley isn't afraid to kill off main characters. I think it's the best novel I've read this year, can't wait till June when book 2 is released.
Of course I may be the only one who ready this, I am a turbo book nerd.

Try The Black Company saga. Something like 12 or 16 books in the series by Glenn Cook. The first book sets the world and was a bit slow. The remaining books fly. Lots of pollitical manipulations and back stabbing.

Funny you should mention that, I JUST yesterday picked up the chronicles of Black Company, a hardcover with first 3 Black Company books.

The Black Company is probably my most favorite series. When I came in it was at about book 3 or 4. I spent a lot of time waiting on the next book.
The Cross Time Engineer series was pretty cool for all the factual info included. The author has all his references listed at the back of each book. Basically a fellow gets drunk, stumbles into the basement of the bar and wakes up in Poland 10 years before the Mongols invade and kill everyone in the country. He revolutionizes the nation with things like the steam engine, watered steel, and genetic engineering.
