View Full Version : Creating competition

Smart Parts has strategically positioned itself to exploit the sport and has become the leach of the industry. So now what happens? They put in place legal barriers of entry for competition. This puts Smart Parts as a monopolist of sorts in the industry. I realize this is not the case but eventually when margins are trimmed enough by those companies which have the means, new companies will not have a chance. There is hope however. Lurking in the shadows was a few inventors and manufacturers that brought a great idea to fruition; the pneumatic trigger. The Pnuemag is a great example of this. However, companies were waiting for such an initiative to start and quickly thwarted the idea through patent disputes and have promised mass production for years. Now those tinkers, engineers, and air smiths who had a slight streak of laziness are fed up with waiting and they have taken to creating what they at one time wished to buy from a major manufacturer, a really well made pneumatic trigger paintball marker. So now you have many guys, just like when paintball started, messing around with pneumatics to create their own markers. Smart Parts has infused the desire for knowledge into the industry. I hope for one day that the industry will be a free enterprise competitive industry again and that we develop well made markers that work off air only again. No wasteful battery use/ environmental impact. I think with a little motivation and inventive aptitude many of us are able to push back against Smart Parts to make the sport not about the marker you have but how you play. Maybe one day these individuals that come forward to take advantage of this opportunity will be the competition of the future. Newton had a few laws about this which may apply;

The three laws are:
1. An object will remain at rest, or continue to move at a constant velocity, unless a resultant force acts on it.

2. Net force on an object is proportional to its mass multiplied by its acceleration.

3. For every force acting on an object, the object will exert an equal, yet opposite, force on its cause.

Thoughts?

The problem being though, PTP has attempted to position themselves with the Pneumatic Trigger much the same way ********** did with the electro.

Tom did the wait-and-see who owns the IP. Nicad moved on to greener pastures. PTP, who knows what the hell they are doing, besides hoping for someone to pay them licensing fees. G-Force looks the most promising to put something out. But the aesthetics of their frame and trigger leave something to be desired.

Besides, with a pneu-trigger you still are required to pull the trigger yourself---a skill. Hard to compare that with the ease of shooting a ramping marker that does all the hard work for you.

Totally agree with you rogue. PTP are right up there with smart parts as far as i am concerned. I think it is up to the individual now. Ahhh those were the old days when we combined the skill of movement and shooting within the same game. Now if we could only come up with some configuration of electronics to move us strategically up and down the field, we could then sit by and watch our lives pass before our eyes.
