As for why I'd choose the two CCM's -- Very high quality feel, fit, finish. Solid. Extremely consistant - as in I chrono'd 280,280,281 last time she was out. reliable -- two years, never did more than clean and lube. Cocker threaded barrels. very good on air. I'd only use HPA - its designed for it.

Ask BIGEVIL how it shoots after I stuff him with it at the "HYPERPIPE SMACKDOWN" -- TUNABALL II .

An ss25 is pretty simple to maintain as long as you know how to clean a regulator. You can't get it new from ccm anymore. But you can get the s6 and the series 5 basic which has a different style pump guide which is is still pretty smooth. Heck I have more pics of me shooting my pump than a mag. :ooo:

CCM for open, and CCI for stock class. I really love my phantom and to me they look better. My :twocents:

While the CCM's are indeed the premiere pumps in the industry, you really can't go wrong with a Phantom.

However, that being said, I really like my Grey Ghost. I don't know if it was the paint or what, but I was drilling shots across the field right where I was aiming.

Oh.. and the Buzzard has a nice pump stroke and just feels good in my hands...

well crap --- this really cleared things up..

If you got the money go with ccm.

If you don't pick up an autococker. I have put together a very sweet looking sniper with a very smooth pump stroke for very little.

The pump stroke in my opinion is smoother then a phantom.

I have a ccm pump kit so it is pretty darn close to that of a ccm.

A sniper is also pretty dang easy to maintain as well. Set the reg and spring combo and you are good to go.

I currently own a CCI Phantom (for sale BTW), love it for Stock Class, Buzzard is much heavier, but much smoother pump stroke.

My new main gun (yes even over my mags) is the S6. Ridiculously light, damned sexy, and superb quality. SS25's or the Series 5 are very good alternatives from CCM, the ss25 and Series 5 imo are just a wee bit too heavy. At AO Socal Camp Pendleton, I had the best game I have ever played using my s6, everything went right where I wanted it to.

For cost, any cocker based sniper will be great.

Upgrades:
CCI Phantom - there are none, 'upgrades' are all cosmetic for this marker.
CCM S6 - None needed.(whats to upgrade?)
CCM SS25 - None needed.(whats to upgrade?)
CCM Series 5 - Unknown but probaly not needed.
Carter Buzzard - Only one thing I know of which is some collar on stock is made of aluminium and flares over time. I think its Monga from either hundreth monkey or Desert Duck makes a replacement made of SS.

Disclaimer: Barrels are not an upgrade for the most part everyone usually buys a different one than stock anyways. CCI Phantom Barrels are probably the BEST stock barrels if used with Detent Rings. If you are replacing a stock CCI barrel its for looks, or to use a Freak Insert or CF barrel.

its sad but the only pump i have ever owned is a brass eagle. I have played with some very smooth phantoms. SO i guess for lack of know much elase i would pick a phantom vs a brass eagle.

I do not:(

I use a pump cocker instead, and I am happy with it:)

I've only test fired CCMs and Carters, but the pump stroke on either is heavenly. I'd go with a Nelson, either a Carter or Phantom, since you're familiar with Mags...the configuration in terms of valve placement and body length and such is close to identical.

Well you've seen the pics of my pumps... except for the phantoms... I don't really the phantoms that much at all. Hence the reason one of them is on the chopping block currently. The other one I mod'd for scenario games and more than likely will be chopping it soon as well as I never take it out. Just hmmmm not my thing I guess...

As far as lightweight and smooth stroke goes though the CCM's are VERY NICE!!! They take the extra time to coat all the internals that the leprechauns make (all other little critters were hired by other companies) with leprechaun jizz I think... cause that stuff is SMOOOOOTHH!!!! My teammate has one and talk about feeing good in the hands... He's got the S6 I think it is... the newest one??? Super smooth to use.

I would say that will be my next gun... but meh.... I am needing allllll too badly to offload half of the ones I have now.... Only way I'll by anything now is if it's a good deal that I can scavenge parts from and sell off the rest to make some of my money back...

Carter pumps, IMO are the pump equivalent of a mag.

Built one at a time, Custom to your order, and Built to last.

Carter pump FTW

I've played a lot of pump and I'm basing this off markers I've owned or played with. The CCM's are very nice, but IMO too pricy for me. I've always been partial to phantoms. The pump stroke isn't quite as nice as the CCM's but they 'feel' better to me. I seem to play more comfortably with them - thats just a personal preference. Phantoms are fantastic markers for the price, I've never not had one that shot darts.

I'm actually in the market for another pump and I'm going to try the new Karni pumps and see how they compare. I wasn't impressed with the last sniper I had but I always liked karnis so what the heck.

Carters shoot like phantoms with a smoother stroke and triple the price tag. I have yet to own a pump mag so I can't comment on that...yet.

I bought a ANS Gen-X2 Cocker.
Put a CCM pump kit on the thing.
Eclipse Slider trigger and frame
Small 45/45 bottle

Love it.

The barrel changes with the paint and weather.
This is the one gun I have multiple barrels for that stay with the gun.

J&J 1-piece 16" Ceramic
PMI 12" Ceramik Perfect-Bore
Custom threaded 14" Brass barrel off a KP rifle (so I was told)

Wow,that's the most ignorant thing I've read on this forum yet... even with the smilie it's worse than most of the stuff on PBN...

Go Phantom. They can't be beat for the price/options. You can go from stock class to open pump in less than 2 mins. Or anywhere in between.
Also as mentioned, if you're use to shooting a Mag, the Phantom lines up almost perfectly with it. It's the closest thing to a Mag (not including a pumpmag of course) that you'll find.

The other markers are nice, but not worth it in my opinion, especially for your first pump...

I enjoyed the high end pumps ive shot, but didnt want to spend big $ for a "part time" marker. Instead, i lurked around the forums, picked up a nice and clean 04 prostock for $80.00 and grabbed a nice pump kit for $30.00. And a Benchmarks slider frame for $10.00. Presto. Takes all the same barrels as my mag, and shoots really well.

I guess this question is bigger than this thread.

Zmans Thread discusses the "why", so Ill ask..

Do you plan on playing a majority of pump games, or is it just a novelty?

If you're serious about pump, Price should not be the deciding factor, we all know mags are not the cheapest marker out.

If you're just curious, buy a phantom... 200 to 300 bucks is a good price for "just trying it out"

I'm waiting for a "snap-on" paintball gun :nana:

I bought a few pumps so I could play out in the woods with my brother and girlfriend. Love the PGP, also got a Diablo and a Trracer (Phantom clones if I'm not mistaken). There's way cheaper routes to go than a Phantom for just "trying out" pump play.

Mine

I think cocker pumps are great. Got this for $60... the pump kit was most of it. and the flame drop is killer

Phantoms... I dont like them cause of how limited barrels are for them... and the fact that sand and stuff would get between the pump and the barrel scratching it up.

But the CCM's are slick as it gets if pump is your thing. you can pump them while holding onto the grip and flicking it up and back... they are that smooth.

CCM ss-25s can be made either stock class or open class easily. They are a bit pricy , like all all ccm markers.

If you are just wanting to try pump play , then a cocker with a cheap pump kit would be the way to go. cockers go for very cheap right now.

Cockers can be had fairly cheap right now, all it takes is a pump kit and you are ready to go. Phantoms are great, and pretty good bang for the buck. Some people don't like the utra-light gun thing, but I have never had any problems. PPS is like one off Sheridan brass, and always cool, besides they come in the "Nasty" flavor. PMI Trracers can be had in the $25 to $35 range so they are a cheap entry, if you have not decided if you really want to pump or not. Sheridans, well they are heavy brass, but lots of fun, besides they are generally older than most of the people on the field.

Phantoms are nice but the CCM S series are better. I have had phantoms but they do not compare to the CCM marker. The CCM markers are a little pricey but you can find them around for a decent price. The pump stroke is smooth and short and the AT is very nice. You can hold the trigger and just pump out the paint.

I'm partial to Phantoms. I've had mine since 2000 and only change one o-ring since. They aren't the smoothiest pumps out there though. They can be a bit stiff when being broken in. The biggest problem with the phantom though is the barrel threading. If the Phantom had a cocker threaded body it would be gold.

Mike at CCI is a good guy too. Great customer service.

Well, I'm think lsrsktr has a series five he has raved about to me.

To be honest, all of the non-cocker pumps I've ever handled have been lower-end. Sl68s, Traccers, stuff like that.

I like my cocker pumps. Stacked-tube design, lots of metal to mill/remove, lots of aftermarket choices (springs, bolts, valves, hammers, gripframes, feednecks, ASAs, barrels....it is a cocker after all). You can always midblock or halfblock them.

I have a full-sized PTP pump. It's nice, but noticeably heavier than other guns. I also have a JoshGrrr mini mid-block pump. I'll try and grab some pics at one point. It's super tiny! It feels like a kids toy it's so small (there was a fair amount of material milled off). He may be still taking custom work, I don't know I haven't seen him on-line for a while.

I've considered getting a pump kit for my Blazer. I've owned a Typhoon and this Blazer, Palmer guns are great of course, but I've never used a Palmer pump.

I've always wanted to try out a phantom or buzzard, but never ran across any back when I was playing alot more.

Let us know what you settle on.

Another vote for CCM.

It's the only gun I've paid for personally in the last 5 years. I have a blue camo J2 and love it.

Other than that the new Sterlings are nice. I'm probably about to get one.

Shane-O

I prefer the stacked tube designs myself. I have had/shot just about every brand of pump and I prefer Snipers (cocker pumps to the younger crowd...lol). You will have to shoot a Phantom for a day and shoot a Sheridan based pump and see what you like better. Sterlings are nice, but I didnt like the feel of it. Palmer SS was very nice, but would be my second choice after a sniper based pump. My last one was a Freeflow Millenium with a pump kit on it, smooth as hell and fit my style perfectly. I am now working on a Trilogy, and the reason for that is the Trilogy I have works without a reg, so straight Co2 or high pressure HP tanks work awesome on it without a secondary reg. CCM makes great products and great customer service, as does CCI. Try them both and decide for yourself.......................
